Are these meant for truckers or non truckers?
I'm parked in a rest area in Columbia, South Carolina on I-26 tonight that says 2 hour parking limit. I'm out of hours. I parked in a legal spot. Cop can tell me to move and violate my HOS if it's that big of a deal.
Ive seen these signs in a few states. Are they meant for truckers or non truckers like campers maybe? Are these rules enforced? Or are the signs there so if people are camping overnight and up to no good the cops can kick them out and use the signs as a legal precedent to do so?
No overnight parking/2 hour rest limit signs at rest areas

It is for everybody. They have been known to mark a tire and come back to see if you are still there.
-
I always assumed they were meant for everyone.
That being said, I rolled past the rest areas on 26 by Columbia approx 2am yesterday morning and there didn't look to be an open spot, as with the other places I've seen those signs posted. I don't imagine there ever is.
Personally, do what ya gotta do and roll the dice, you're out of time.. -

Rest up trucker don't worry about it. Get a good night's rest. No one will be knocking on your door.
kemosabi49, Western flyer, DTP and 5 others Thank this. -
Let the ELD scream violation. Make sure you get the Police Dept, his name badge number and his superior. Then go find another spot. Repeat your sleeper time. Document everything.
Other than that just get some sleep. -
I’ve never slept at that one outside Columbia (too close to the highway for my liking), but I’ve slept at the rest area up the road in Orangeburg several times. Also sleep at the rest areas in Yemasee and Lugoff here and there, and they all have that same sign. I’ve never been bothered. If you’re in a legal spot, then you’re golden.
Lepton1 and Suspect Zero Thank this. -
26 to me says Spartensburg SC. And northward. Relatively quiet in my time.
Has it gotten that full these days? -
If it isn't a US Marshal knocking on the door, you don't have to move.
icecold24k, buddyd157, Swedish Chef and 4 others Thank this. -
