Hi everyone,
I’m new to this forum, and I did search for the answer but couldn’t find exactly what I need. I have 4 axle truck with a tri drive (all 3 down all the time, not a lift axle) and 55t trailer. I’m looking for a 4th flip axle to run as closed 4, and was thinking to get a spreader bar down the road. I found an equalizer which is all in one piece (axle doesn’t unpin) and was thinking if any body has a pros and cons buying equalizer as a one piece or better spreader plus axle.
Nitro vs spreader bar and a flip

Typically the integral (1 piece) is lighter in weight which is an advantage, but most people would give up the difference in weight to be able to run as a quad when possible due to the fact it saves on length (if your over 90' = pilot car) and your maneuverable as a quad. But to each their own.
If you want to be a bit more technical about this topic, since you show a picture of a Superior stinger I am not a fan of the pivot being up front (more stress) especially for the pivot pin size in my opinion a bit too small. Plus it binds the trailer more when turning. They are prone for the pivot pins to wear badly and eventually have a lot of slack in them which could be mainly that most people don't grease the pivot each day its used, but I still believe the pivot pin is too small.
Then you could get into the hydraulic versus rigid bar scenario. You can get a hydraulic nitrogen stinger that has a detachable axle just like the rigid bar...Oxbow Thanks this. -
Thank you heavyhaulershotcaller for the quick reply. This is Fontaine unit if it makes any difference ... I’m about 73 from bumper to bumper, not sure what is the length of this stinger
