Hey trucker friends! I thought I would share this with you all.Back in june of 2008 I Got a call from my wife telling me the dreaded news that my 9 year old son had relapsed from leukemia which he had recently been "cured" of. ..Doctors call it "remission".
Anyways, I decided that being home was very critical now as was my experience during his 5 year battle previously revealed. So I call my D.M. whose initials are "C.B" In columbus,Ohio , I say "look (C) ,I am going to return the truck back to you guys when I get back to the terminal (in Fairburn,Ga -I had pre approved time off already scheduled-no new preload)I have a ......(She Interupts saying . . .)"I am going to make it to where you'll NEVER work in this industry again!"
I ask her what she means . . ..She hangs up . . ..I call another dispatcher and explain what I didn't get to fully explain . . .cool . ..things are ok there . . .right? well, I turn in my tractor in good order ,cleaned, keys given to shop along with fuel card etc. and the EMPTY walmart trailer is parked safely in yard. I go home and I get my old job local sand hauling back so I can be home for my son . . .I get laid-off from that job in november 2009 and they tell me I will probably get brought back in april 2010 . . .well, they never did get me back on working due to firther work shortages and so I start pursuing other jobs via internet etc. But nobody seems interested and aren't really calling..
I decide to pull my D.A.C . . .UH-OH . . . N.F.I . . .They put that I "left company while under a dispatched load" . I have filed a dispute and am currently talking with a wonderful prospect out of Florida hauling HAZMAT.I wish N.F.I would remove this report as it has cost me and mine some problems in the recent days and I will call them again to ask if they would remove this stuff-I know it was simply due to one person having a bad day and NFI as a whole is actually a pretty good company otherwise.
    Is it just me?

Sorry to hear of your troubles driver. How is your son? In my mind you did the right thing and yes you are right your dispatcher was out of line. Good luck to you

Sounds like you did the right thing if your story is accurate. I hope your child recovers fully from a second bout with this disease.

I quit my job yesterday after 2.5 years at P.A.M. Transport and after hearing all the horror stories, I made sure I crossed my Ts and dotted the Is. I gave my two weeks notice over the Qualcomm and offered to take the truck back to Tontitown, Arkansas in the same message. Keep in mind I live in Michigan and although it would be a pain in the rear, I just want to leave this company in good standing and have as a good reference for the future. My D.M. that I've had for only a week (the one I had for a year and a half quit before Christmas) replied "I will find out if you can take the truck to Ohio to drop off load and truck, but wait for my o.k. Please call me now. Thanks" So I call in on the phone and he says it was ok, but noticed his voice lowered to almost a whisper than when he said this than the first half of the conversation. So now I'm suspicious. The next day, I put on the QC "I appreciate you for allowing me to drop the truck off and the load, over the phone in Ohio tomorrow, as it will make life a lot easier for me. However, I do not want an "abandoned truck" or my $400 in escrow money to be lost for not returning the truck to Tontitown. Are you sure I'm ok to return truck and drop load to the Ohio yard?" He must have gotten really pissed because he replied "yes I already told you once to take the truck down to Ohio." I also took photographs of every QC message back and forth on my cell phone for evidence in case something funny happens later down the road. Yesterday I deliver my load and get reloaded to head to Ohio. I called my HR person and she said she didn't get any notice from my DM of me quitting yet and it sometimes takes a week. So I talked to the driver liason there and told her I was quitting for another company that was paying a lot more money and I had nothing bad to say about P.A.M. I only want to do the right and honorable thing and not be a classless jerk and leave the truck where they don't want it. I asked her if she could see QC messages and she read them all and said "yes, I can see here that he approved it and if anyone else has a problem with it, it's all right here." She has a bit of a reputation for being a bit coarse with a lot of drivers, but I was very polite to her and she was very polite back and even wished me luck with my new job and said if it didn't work out to come back to P.A.M. I dropped the truck off and took multiple pictures of the exterior and interior of the truck (it was in mint condition). I also showed the truck parked next to other company trucks as well as the truck next to the office of the yard, which has a sign near it.

So always remember, in this industry, Cover Thy Tail! There are a lot of two-faced people out there. In this case, it was someone that doesn't even know me, or the good work I've done for the last 2 years wanted to screw with me. By the way, on the load assignment to Ohio, I noticed the delivery date was for Tuesday and should have been Wednesday. Being that he was new and I ran a dedicated route, I messaged him "just FYI, I noticed del date is Tuesday and should be Wednesday." He replied "don't worry about it, you're quitting." I replied "sorry, was only trying to help." It made me even more glad I was leaving at the right time I had been assigned a miserable D.M.

I had two items on my DAC that were incorrect. I didn't bother asking my old company to remove them because I didn't even want to speak to them after how I had been treated the last month. I just petitioned at the HireRight website, stated my case and they took it from there.

I received a letter about a month or so later with their final ruling and a copy of my updated DAC with those two items removed. :)

If you went home to take care of your son. You were protected by the Medical Leave Act. If the company was vendictive during that time, I'd be talking with an attorney. That lady is probably dumb to the law. Besides, she has no heart.

Absolutely no heart........ however this is trucking reality. The drivers departure will cause grief at the co. no matter what they say. During his tenure he built a "rap" with his people that they depended on. They will now have to try and replace him however one in the hand is two in the bush.

Family first Mr.Driver and I wish all the best to you and your family.....

Thank You Chalupa! Same back to ya! I just bagged a job today for Genpro . . .I had been unemployed for thirteen months (330 bucks a week UI bennys)and the trainer put me through a real road test and pre-trip which I really feel I didn't miss any Inspection "elements" in . . . right down to the 3 brake tests . . .Quite refreshing to see nowadays-Any ways, I was a bit nervous as I havent driven in such a while-The trainer says" You ever drive a super-10?" I'm like "yeah, sure"

I nailed the ######! . . .Barely a scratch! Smooth lane changing-I thought I was king super trucker today for sure! Now I gotta wait for drug results and off I go . . .It'll be good to get back!

:biggrin_2552:I would file a defamation suit. If what you are saying is accurate you can subpoena the records of the bills you signed for the load you allegedly picked up. They should owe you lost wages during the time you are seeking employment. Sue Hire Rite and NFI. These things are crimes. DAC and Credit reporting agency's operate under guilty until proven innocent. Makes me sick.
