On a related question, someone told me all the bridges in NYC and the Tappan Zee have EZ-Pass. Is this true? I always carry cash whenever I'm near NYC just in case.

I have not seen any toll roads or bridges east of the Mississippi that did not take EZ-Pass. "Back in the day" I trucked out there before EZ-PAss and other toll reader passes, and had to carry several hundred dollars in cash just to pay tolls for a week maybe. Glad those days are past. Now, I would NEVER drive for someone who ran the east or other heavy toll road area and did NOT provide EZ-Pass.

    Hurst and JC1971 Thank this.

The only place east of the Mississippi that does not take EZ-Pass is Fla tolls which currently are SunPass only. I did hear a rumor though,.. that SunPass will eventually be compatible with EZ-Pass like I-Pass in Chicago works with EZ-Pass.

True, but having cash will get you out of a ticket or at least a hassle if/when your transponder stops working. Especially if you have the old kind bolted to the license plate (you can't hand it to them to re-scan).

They come over and write down the transponder/plate number down and input it on their little handheld device.

They do the same for OS loads going thru tollbooths. & charge all the extra too :/
