Second rest area/ inspection station east bound on 84. They seem to be pulling every one with placards.

Unlike the big rotten apple, the NY state DOT guys are well trained and know their stuff so make sure you have it together...

It has been my experience that NY and Pennsylvania DOT officers and their companion State Police officers mean business, but are fair.
Neither one goes for what one of them termed to me a "cheap collar".
I had a container chassis with an intermittent turn signal (imagine that). He allowed me to play with it for a few minutes and was satisfied it was safe. No writeup.

Years ago they were training a new class around Binghamton and found one non-fusible nut on the cable operators of the internal valves, placed buy someone to get the load off after the soft metal in a fusible nut failed and never written up...

One 5/16th's nut nestled among 6 others, all connected to the rear of the operating levers, almost impossible to novice the little dimple that indicated the nut was designed to melt free during a fire and they found it. Got my respect.

Most of the time they just look for the guys running the scales there anyways unless you have something that really draws their attention.

I caught a PA random at the Sandy Ridge pullout on PA-350. He sat in his cruiser with my paperwork for a half hour before returning to tell me that my trailer vin was a match between the paper and the vin plate, but his laptop said some digits were reversed. Since PA systems are perfect, I was instructed to get it sorted with Georgia authorities asap LOL. Acting dumb got him to move on. When I got home I registered both my trailers in Maine, which resolved that and a pesky local tax all in one simple trick.

6 compartment eliptical aluminum tank wagon. All 6 operating handles are inside a box with an emergency remote to close them all and each cable is atached with that fuseable nut. Just looking at them is difficult let alone seeing that little dimple where the bimetal was poured in.

In the summer owego seems like it's always open. Always a bunch of trash haulers out of service
