Truck has been shifting hard and almost like it was hanging up and slipping. Took it to the dealer 4 times they "reprogrammed it" and nothing changed. Friday the truck got stuck in 5 gear. Had it towed in and now they are saying the filter is plugged and also the fluid coloring is "off" and looks like it is almost fluorescent in color.

    Anyone have any ideas?
They sent the fluid out to get tested.
Truck only has 10,000 miles on it.

Fluorescent as in coolant? That would be a problem.

Sometimes they'll throw UV dye into oil to help ID a leak. GM did that to my pickup when it was new due to a leak. Flash forward to 80,000km and the local transmission shop calls me up to ask if I ever had dye put into the transmission because the old fluid was fluorescent orange when he did the transmission filter change.

It does look orange/red in color. We have other trucks with Allison and no problems at all but this one from day one has not seemed right

If the filter was plugged, she might be toasted. A relative had a pickup with a 4L80E auto and it started acting up after about 20,000 km. Dealer replaced the speed sensor a bunch of times over the next 5,000 before finally pulling the tranny. Found everything inside was melted. No idea how the truck even drove.

Spin on Filter should have been serviced very early. If it's plugged that's VERY bad on a Allison!
    Damage has been done.

Someone put the wrong fluid in it? These things don't use ATF. We've got a few oilfield trucks with the 4500 Allisons, and they're relatively bulletproof as long as they're serviced at the appropriate intervals (50K miles for us, severe duty, 24/7 operation).

Stucking ih 5th gear usually not related with incominated fluid/

    it is solenoid valve problem

Use Allison DOC software to actuate valves one by one and check bad valve by sound.

Check also VSS and TPS data!

Come to find out the cooler for the transmission broke and filled the transmission with coolant.
They shipped a new trans and I should have it back up and running this week.
