Hi, I was wondering about getting into Expedited Freight hauling and was
interested in a cargo van under 10,000 GVW this size would fit my needs and
interest. I no longer have a CDL, nor the want to acquirer one. The idea of
no log book or scales to mess with sounds to good to be true. I was a OTR
driver for a little over twenty years and have been retired for about eight
years, but the world economy is forcing me back to work.. I still have an
income but not what it takes to live comfortable.
So hears my question is a E250 extended van capable of making a
reasonable living in the real world. I know the trucking life and have no
problem with the high and lows of the business, I also owned a small van
delivery service in Los Angeles, Ca. thirty years ago. I live in North West
Pa. (Cambridge Springs, 16403)
Thanks

While I have NO clue about what you are looking for, I just wanted to suggest that there are trucking forums dedicated to just expediting. I can't post the link here, but if you google expediting forums, it will take you right to the top listing for that. Good luck.

I wouldn't try to break into expediting with a cargo van..the business is saturated with them..rates are down..not a great idea at this time.
RickG Thanks this. -
Most expidite co's will require you to have a CDL no matter what you drive.

Thats not true for cargo or sprinters vans..I was looking into fleet owning sprinter vans..Every company I talked to said i could hire any non cdl holders for sprinters..

I've read that panther has vans following HOS now or are going to
They used to allow up to 16 hours of driving -
Last time I talked to Tri-State and Land Star they required it. It was a while ago though. -

The main reason expediters choose cargo vans is to avoid logging . With rates at $.70 a mile if Panther mandates logging and all the other carriers don't they'll lose a lot of cargo vans .
