I am a company driver beginning my move to the owner operator world. I'm looking for any advice I can get from local o/o drivers in the North Jersey area (Kearny/Newark, etc.). I'd really appreciate any and all information I can get. Trying to stay local as much as possible as I'll be driving a day cab.
New Jersey owner operators??

Sounds like you may be doing container work. Or possibly look into doing the "final mile", drivers that don't want to do NYC deliveries.

I'm not an owner op but I'm down in the area twice a week and all I see is container work. If you want local that's pretty much it. You'll contract with some cross dock warehouse and go in and out of the port all day.

Lot of asphalt work in Jersey, mostly daycab work

Why do you want to be an owner operator if you have nothing lined up?

Your best bet might be hook up with Schneider and run the rails for them out of Jersey City & North Bergen.

For a day cab port work is about it .
Everything else is sleeper work like bananas ,trash and some very few temp controlled stuff all of which is cheap.
Inbound to that Area pays well , outbound is junk .
