As an owner operator myself, I Advise new incoming drivers not to get fked by companies. I KNOW AND UNDERSTAND YOU THINK 1500 A WEEK IS A LOT OF MONEY COMPARED WITH 600 IN A WAREHOUSE BUT I ASSURE YOU IT IS NOT. THERE ARE A LOT OF EXPENSES OVER THE ROAD, YOU WILL BE WORKING 24/7 AND THERE ARE A LOT OF DAILY SETBACKS.

PLEASE PLEASE AS NEW DRIVERS I KNOW IT IS A BIT DIFFICULT BUT TRY NOT TO ACCEPT ANYTHING LESS THAN 60 CPM.

    thank you

Well if the average is looking for 60 cpm, they will be without a job for a while. It ain't that many OTR companies paying 60 cpm per mile unless you got some longevity in the company or certifications/endorsements. It is not about how much money you make in this industry, but how you spend it.

You do realize that most companies that hire new CDL holders. Don't pay anywhere near that much. That rate is for people who have experience.

CPM doesn't mean much if there are no accessorial pays or benefits package.
Just as important or even more important is the benefits package. Healthcare insurance, retirement plan, dental plan, vision plan, paid vacations and some other stuff.
Accessorial pays are important; detention pay, stop pay, layover pay, 34 hr. reset pay, etc.
I've never worked for a company that didn't pay detention pay after the first hour. The first hour is covered by stop pay which is usually double or more the hourly detention pay.

These types of jobs are available after 1 or 2 years experience at OTR companies for $0.60 CPM.

    GP Transco

    Crete

    Shaffer

Variant (some offshoot of US Express I think)

These companies are all starting out at base pay $0.60 CPM or higher for drivers with 1 or 2 years experience. They come with the caveat that at least at Crete and Shaffer they don't have the driver comforts like an APU unit, so you would have to give up your comfort to get that high pay. I think GP Transco has APU units though, but I read on here they do a lot of short, brokered loads of 500 miles or less with lots of live loads. So, not sure you can get the miles to make that high CPM worth it there.

Some trucking companies are close to $0.60 CPM with bonuses. Magnum out of Fargo starts out at $0.49 CPM with potential for 9 CPM monthly bonuses, which would bring your pay up to $0.58 CPM. And that's for brand new CDL holders with no experience. So if you can hit the bonuses there, that's $0.58 CPM right out of CDL school. Not sure how achievable their bonuses are though, in the Magnum thread on here they seemed achievable for some and not very achievable for others. I guess it depends on your dispatcher.

Unless you're exceptionally lucky, or 1099 you aren't making the money. You get the experience, then yes, you can make good.
