I just got my own DOT #. I'm still shopping around for insurance. I got the process agent already for like $30 (BOC-3). After the insurance is paid for and kicks in, what other requirements do I have to meet to stay legal? I do know about the drug consortium. What else do I have to comply with?

I did have a few companies call me offering their "services" after I got my own DOT but I'd rather know what I need before I pay something I don't need.

    OOIDA I agree.

I think their fee to do the paperwork is well worth it.

And membership is well worth it also.

They will answer any compliance questions and they also have a compliance service that you can pay for.

    Rideandrepair and PE_T Thank this.

Yeah, what they said. OOIDA does it all for you, or shows you what to do. Join up for a few bucks and save yourself a lot of headaches.

I’m looking around for a third party to do the drug tests and prepare me for the new entrant safety audit you guys have good luck with OOIDA? Foley keeps calling me every other day along with others I don’t want to fall for a scam but need to make sure I don’t get put out of business before I get in business.

All those calls you are getting is normal. 99.9% are actually garbage, including the emails/mail. Don’t fall for it. If you think they may be offering something you need, ask for their company name and location. You look for them online. It’s much safer than just assuming what they’re telling you is true. Unfortunately many of them make money out of the ignorance of new motor carriers. Don’t be the next one.

Become a member at OOIDA, and look into NASTC for fuel discounts. I think that’s mostly it. Roam around in this site, you’ll learn a lot.

Occasionally you will receive an email or some mail about some DOT law. It’s usually a scare tactic to get you to sign up for some service. Now, the law they’re referencing is usually real, but the email/mail may not explain it all or they may leave it at the bottom of the writing. You can also call OOIDA to have them explain it to you.

Was this question for me or Xairx? If it was for me, I haven't gotten insurance quotes yet.
