    Submarines used them, as I recall.

    Another note, they used turbos, not superchargers, so cold starts are not going to happen, I believe there was something about supplying air heated by compressing it to start them. They let them idle, for the most part.

    EMD do a similar thing on their 710's. They have a centrifugal supercharger with a clutch and turbine wheel, and the supercharger can be disconnected at higher speeds to function as a purely exhaust-driven turbo. Personally, I'd like to see a water-cooled exhaust manifold and a single VGT that feeds two parallel Roots or screw blowers driven through a CVT (continuously variable transmission).

    I don't know anything about Achates Power, but I hate the sound of a double breasted yamaha aka 8V92

    Especially when they are running backwards

    There's nothing new about them..
    The English Commer Trucks had them back in the 60's. They were extremely popular here in Australia..
    Chyrsler Killed them off when they Bought Commer in the late 60's early 70's..
