Hi, I am thinking of a pretty serious career change. I want to get a CDL and hit the open road. Has anybody had any experience with either NETTTS in Rhode Island or Parker in Avon, MA? I live in Boston (Dorchester) and those two schools are the closest to me. The one thing that I don't really understand is why NETTTS is 5 months and Parker is 6 weeks. Also, this might sound like a dumb question, but if an OTR truck driver lives in a congested city, how do they get home for their home time? Do they drive to a terminal somewhere and then just leave their car there while they are out on the road in the truck or to they drive the truck home with them? Thanks!
Nettts or Parker in MA???

Netts has another facility in Andover Mass
when i visited many schools as a recruiter Netts was the most impressive
every company has a different policy for where to park the truck to go home
some drivers especially in the city have to rent spots from storage places gas stations etc -
Try Parker.
NETTTS is overly priced, and has no real placement personnel. They let you use the computer to find jobs and at nearly $11,000, you could do that at home.
From your location, Parker would be closer and I think cheaper. -
I went to Parker and was very happy with it. I know a few Netts graduates and they were also very happy with the training provided.
I looked into Netts and the guy I talked to was very salesmenish. They were also a lot more $ than parker. When I originally called Netts they didn't want to give me a lot of info until I met with a recruiter. I called parker they gAve me all info I needed and also said "come on down to meet with the boss/owner if you would like. "
I did the weekend only course. Again I really don't have anything negative about the training provided at Netts just there recruiting procedure and cost was a turn offun for me. I lived in Haverhill at the time so Netts North Andover was right down the street from me but I am very happy I chose parker -

I attended NETTTS (Pawtucket, RI) in 2013, and I am still paying off those loans. They were nice for the most part, but my class room instructor was full of crap ! Had a bad attitude and told a lot of "stories", which made me not trust or respect him. I left NETTS two months into the program for Prime. Just my experience ...

I went to parker and had a good experience. The explanation I got about the class duration vs NETTS is that parker has smaller class sizes so you spend more time driving the truck and less time watching the other students drive the trucks. I took the weekday class and don't have any complaints.
I also sent 2 of my employees there but helped them study for their permit exam and let them practice stuff on our equipment. That saved them a bunch of time and money because they could just go for private lessons to get used to the maneuvers and equipment.
I've interviewed and taken new drivers for tests as well that went to both schools, not a ton but a few each. I've found the parker students to be better at preptrip and airbrakes for sure. On the road and parking in the real world seemed to be more about the individual driver however. Personally I like an applicant that can do a real pre-trip and knows what a drag-link is.
