Spend an extra buck while at the parts store for a red or yellow paint pen. Draw a straight line across the strap bolts and also on the yoke nut and threads. That way when you are under there greasing the truck, you can with a quick glance see if they are backing off.

    Yup.

Another important item to note is marking driveline alignment before disconnecting for service. It's just cheap insurance to put everything back the way it was originally to minimize balance issues. Paint pens or the white tire crayons work great for this.

One of my biggest pet pieves is tow companies yanking a driveline out at the slip yoke without marking it. Often when dropped they are tossed in the dirt with u joint caps off to boot. Very frustrating. I get the sense of urgency when broke down on side of the highway, been there done that. 10 yrs of roadside service and it's not fun atol. But there is no excuse to cut corners in this area.

Just an update. Was able to get around to it after work. I literally haven’t had any time to go buy a new impact gun so I just just a 6 foot fence pipe. The 2 1/8 inch nut turned a little bit with hardly any effort. Then I put some good pressure on it and torqued it down pretty good and threw the new straps on. Yoke is nice and tight now. I know the nut is only a one time use so if it comes loose again, I’ll just replace it. Thanks for the help as usual to everyone

Yolks wear out. They usually only come loose when they get play on the splines or the cups get oveled out and vibrations occur.

Tightening it only buys you time , and in most cases it will back itself off again. Keep your eye on it.

I'm guessing a new yolk, nut and u joint is in your future soon.

If it backs off again, I’ll slap a new yoke and nut on there then. Thank you and I appreciate it
