Hi. I have a 2012 Peterbilt 386 and the def has been deleted. The ECU went out and needs to be replaced, but the dealership is refusing to work on it because the def has been deleted. Is there a way that I can get the new ECU put in the truck, and programmed, but keep the def deleted? I am assuming since I bought this truck used and the def was deleted which is common on this model, that it is just going to cause more issues in the future if I have the emissions system reintegrated. I would appreciate some help with solutions if available. Thanks so much!

Find a local tech that will do the work.

Their hands are tied, they can’t work on it or the EPA will tack their hide to the barn. About your only choice is to drag it out of there. If you have to replace emissions parts, on a truck that old you’re going to, an ecu and whatever else they find, to legal the truck up I’d expect $15-$20k. Or get a chain. Once you get it out of there find an ecu, get it PDI’d or Diesel Spec’d like the old one and screw it on. To fix the emissions I can’t see being cheap, or quick. Ask them if they have all the parts in stock first, and what it’s going to cost. Take a bucket, you may hurl when you find out how long and how much.
