Need info on a 3406E

    Can anyone please help me out by looking up the following Cat 5EK71862 and letting me know how this engine was configured when it left the factory.
    Also looking to know what kit # to do a Platinum rebuild to 550HP and a ball park amount of what that may cost in CAD.

    I paid a little over 11,000 us for mine. You might also want to think about a new oil cooler and harmonic balancer if they are original.

    Thanks very much.

    So if I go with the 10R-9564 Platinum rebuild kit I can safely turn it up to 550HP and still purchase a 4 year warranty on it? Is it possible to also up the torque rating from 1650? I would have to check the drive line could handle it of course.

    You could turn it up to 1850 pretty safely, even if you have a 1650 trans. I want to say that there is a 1850 550 hp tune but I’m not sure if it’s out there or worth it, I know a 475 hp 1850 is doable and you will still be able to outpull the masses.

    475HP is 1750 ft/lb torque. 550HP is 1850 ft/lb. If you rerate you will have the low NOX flash files through cat. Need to talk to dealer to see if they will be picky on like for like cores... best to find someone with old flash files or modified one. Could always put a 5ds 600/2050 flash if you want to get a little crazier. With 58 injectors it is closer to 700HP.

    With the amount of money I am going to spend on this rebuild I am suspecting I will have to keep it factory flashed to get the extended warranty?
    Just heard back from the local Cat dealer and they came up with the 10R-9563 as the Platinum kit for my serial number. This is were I start to get confused. Will this kit and the one you suggested both work for a bump to 550HP 1850 ft/lb torque? Does the 10R-9564 kit have heavier duty pistons etc as opposed to the 10R-9563?
    Would the parts I return to the dealer be a like for like core exchange with the 10R-9563?

    Never mind the driveline. They used to sell us 3408's and KTA's with 1200ft/lb transmissions screwed to them and 38,000lb diff's. I don't remember ever suffering from the lack of 46,000lb rears or an 1810 driveline. As long as you dont drive like you stole it you'll be fine.
