Hello Everybody,
I would like to get general info about the carrier units. I have old carrier unit on my trailer (2001) and it has 22 xxx hours on it. Now its giving me an hard time cooling the temperature. Goes to defrost for about 40-50 minutes. Took it to the dealer in Dallas and they told me the wires are bad. Got them changed. After that it was OK for about an hour and started doing it again. Told me again that sensors, compressor...... I'm now thinking to change the Unit on it.The body of the trailer is very good, thats why I don't want to get rid of it. What are the best Carrier units and how much are they cost? new or used. I have no clue about the carrier models, As Always I used Thermoking. I called a dealer and they told me that they have one for $10 000 Carrier Ultra X2100A. I mostly do Produce at 33-38 degrees.
Any advice to choose from the Units or any suggestion whats going on with my unit?
Thanks in advance
need info about Carrier Units

Why change over to Carrier if you're going to swap out the unit? We talking about going to a NEW unit or low hours unit from a wrecked trailer or something? Some older Carriers do have wiring/harness issues where water gets into them and you need to find a mechanic who will take the time to find where the issue is in the wiring and will fix it properly, but these quality mechanics are far and few between.
The NEW Thermo kings (Precedent) will blow you away with their rapid cooling abilities, but understand the higher cost aspect too, but then thermo king has stronger service support network, so ... -
Call thermo king. Carriers are crap. We got thermo kings in our leased units. So much better.

The 2100 a will do you good it's more setup for temps you are talking. The 2500a cool better and have bigger compressors. Ultimas are basically a 2500a with newer plastics ultras are pretty much 2100a and older xl are comparable to tk 190 small units. Me I would go for low hour ultima or 2500a unless you want to spend 25g for that tk precedent and I am not a tk fan like carriers and yes I have ran both tk and carrier and in my opinion carrier has alway had a faster pull down then tk unless you went with sb 300 but not many of the around. Didn't see too tks when I was hauling ice cream must have been a reason. And before you mention carriers are noisier it keeps some of the refraf away lol.
ShortBusKid and Gulsher Thank this. -
Thanks a lot for your advice. If the 2100a is comparable to tk190, its not really good. I'm looking smething comparable to tk 210 or Sb230. What about new units. 7300, and 7500. They have theses units also. Also need one big advice. the reefer box is in a good shape. Should I trade in it to newer like 2009 Trailers or would be better if I just buy a new Unit for it. Getting really confused with it.
Thanks again -
Also any website that we can find salvage trailers that we can buy a used unit.

I got a new engine, rebuilt compressor and various other new bolt on parts for the engine on a unit for a little under $10,000 with warranty. It's CARB legal until 2019. You might have to add a thousand bucks or so for a new control board if yours is bad. Just giving you some options. You are running the risk that your condenser or some other parts are worn out but you'll have a dang near new unit for the price of a used one. Call your local Carrier dealer and see what they'll do for you.
Other than that just google salvage truck parts. The only one that comes to mind is Vander Haags in the Midwest but I'm sure you'll find a bunch online. -
Used reefer units check here http://www.truckpaper.com/list/list...&extendable=0&CTRY=usa&SO=42&btnSearch=Search

The Carrier dealer here in NJ is sucks!! I called them for just checking if they are able to take a look at it. She tells me that they are very behind and call again around Mid August. Any places that I can check with them? Thanks
