hey guys, I just started a small trucking company. I only have 1 truck so far.
I need help/info on what's a proper carrier packet?
I was lucky enough to get a load, but now have to send a carrier packet over before I can get the confirmation rate agreement. they have a list of items i needed to sign and fax back... items such as
carrier profile
signed broker/carrier agreement contract
w9
mc authority document
certificate of insurance/ liability/cargo
references
so Do i just fill all these out put a cover page on top, and that would be my carrier packet?
please help. thank you

Just sign the contract that they send you, and return it along with your W-9 and certificate of operating authority. Have your insurance carrier send a certificate of insurance with the broker as the named insured. Many brokers will send a rate confirmation if you send a blank insurance certificate, but they will want the official cert before you deliver.

You don't usually have to have the broker / shipper as the "named insured", but just as a certificate holder, there's a difference, and it sometimes carries a fee to have a named insured whereas a cert holder typically costs nothing and can be produced in minutes.
OP, don't forget to read the contracts. Yeah they're long and boring, but you need to know what the terms are. Some brokers will add obscure language to the contracts which can really hurt you. Also, when you're doing your contracts with them remember that now's the time for YOU to make contractual stipulations if you wish. For instance, contract statements which makr provisions for you to keep any product rejected for any reasons other than damage, or to be able to assess your fee to transport said product back onto the truck and to wherever it must go. Just one example, but many exist, and you won't find them in the brokers agreement. Welcome to The Truckers Report.
See you in the fast water.
