I don't own a trucking company.I've been a member on ttr for years so you should know that. What a few drivers says is not facts.Yes companies micro manage and so does FMCSA.Paying for physicals is part of the motor carriers responsibility and also most carriers require the applicants to have physical done by their doctor not the doctor of the drivers choice so why should drivers pay for physical? What are you doing to do when elogs become law make your drivers pay for that?

The CDL is the drivers' responsibility, not the carriers, it is the driver who has to maintain it, not the carrier and the foolishness of having the carrier pay for something to maintain the CDL is just that ... foolish. If the DOT lapsed, then it isn't the carrier who has to deal with the problem it is the CDL holder and no one else.
That is like telling me I have to pay for their food because without it, they will stave and if they stave they can't drive my truck.
Been ELD since the beginning of the year except for three trucks which are not required to have them.TripleSix Thanks this. -
I've been there a few times myself. -

Wow! The guy asked for info all he got was a bunch of bull.
Unfortunitly theres no real place or agency around to help, assist.
About the only ones who might are churches after listening to your situation.
And honestly the ones controling drivers isnt elogs or fmcsa.
Its the carriers insurance that make the carrier do what they want. If not they drop or raise the carriers insurance.
Used to be, to be considered by carrier to be hired was only a background, driving record checks and drug, testing.
Now insurance makes them hire with current D.O.T card if not going to training.
Don't have one, get one.
Then during hiring process they have you go take a new physical anyway and not use the older one you came in with.
You still get to keep old card cause its yoursbut. Carrier does not want driver using old one on pull over stops or inspection station. If you do after citation check they can terminate driver cause only suppose to have one. The one carrier had them go get.
One last note all the orientation new driver hires goes thru is not really about making training for new drivers benifit.
New driver signs alot of documentation saying indicating they were basicly told the do's and don't s. Freeing carrier from alot of liability and responsibility and put it on the driver.
As in, Hey! We showed and told the driver the do's and don'ts. Heres all the paper work driver signed we did. Not companies fault driver broke rules policies federal or state regs.
To appease the insurance Gods!
Insurance God judgement?
Fire terminate or we drop or raise your insurance!
So it is written (in section part of carrier insurance agreement)
So let it be done!
Carrier says to insurance God
Theres the driver out on the limb. Come on lets get em!
Thats who controls drivers for carriers. To make carriers follow the written laws!
I think they're also written in stone.
Handed to carriers by federal and state legislators the insurance Gods send lobbiest to go make ad more laws changes to.
fmcsa about every two years.
Is that thunder I hear?
I wish there was some financial assistance for people needing help to pay for cdl's and d.o.t. physicals. Yes I would contribute.
For what ever reason someone is down on luck.
As family illness death, divorce, some hardship not because they planned on it.
Even a site people can get actual help and info not derogatory or negative comments.
Sooner or later what goes around WILL come back to bite one in the ###!
And sooner or later everyones time will come! No matter how much later or negative they are.
Its coming... -

SingingWolf, V c2c and CrappieJunkie Thank this. -
All of you stating that it's the company's responsibility to pay for the DOT physical, please show the FMSCA reg that states that.
Most small companies want a current DOT card.
Just because the mega carriers do something one way doesn't make it the law.CrappieJunkie Thanks this.
