    Craig,

You should easily be able to make that if the company has the frieght. The best way to team is a couple....both incomes to one household. Often married couples turn the operation into "super single" after a year or so and thats when things go down hill. But if you can handle sleeping while your spouse drives and run it like a business you will do fine. When I team drove we did 12 hour shifts and it worked fine, I hear some couples do 5 hr shifts. If your with a good company, plenty of freight, drive 11 hrs straight with minimal breaks you will make outstanding money.......but its hard exhausting work. We used to take a 24 hr break every few days and just chill in a nice motel watch foot ball, kick back, and it made a huge difference!

Super Single= Where one spouse drives all their hours out, and the other spouse just drives 3-4 hours a day to get to the next metro area. Companies hate it, because their asset (the truck) is not getting used to its fullest. Many couples who are owner ops do it as they get older.

Doesn't matter who you go with both companies aren't worth a #### but from what I gather U.S.X is a little better than USA.

ill just spell it out for you before i go to bed.

i was not necessarily insulting your beloved USX company. i was more so saying both companies are basically the same thing. i used crap as an analogy, should i have used apples and oranges? they're a starter company, they are not a top notch company. what do i need to work for them to know that? is it a secret they tell you in orientation? seriously quit worrying about what i say about the company you work for. everyone starts somewhere, i wasnt telling him NOT to work for them, i was just saying theres not much difference between them. i'm glad you are enjoying your wonderful experience with USX, i'm sure they appreciate your honorable defense of them.

I started as new driver with USX in August last year, and don't wanna go into all Ups & Downs but give realistic feedback. Don't believe everything.....you simply can not know how long your training will take. My training took 8 weeks....freight in the 11 Western was low at the time. I am making more miles now solo all 48, than my trainer when I was on his truck......BUT, it's not all about the miles in training... you just gotta be ready to do it alone.

When they prehired me while I was in driving school, they offered a dedicated run between Phoenix and East coast back & forth, and be home every 4 weeks. It never happened that way after I got upgraded. In 6 months I got home 4 times, and home time is a struggle.

I am thankful though, to get a start. The equipment is absolutely great! It's just very hard to get started in this industry.

Good luck, and keep us posted how you're doing.:yes2557:

Great info, thank you. We intend to run hard for quite a bit. Everything in storage and helping our daughter with her rent so we have a bedroom to come home to every once in a while.

Thank you for your honest opinion. I know nothing in trucking is definite and I have to prepare myself for that. It's all about the freight. I think living on the east coast will help me get home a little more because they have more freight on this side of the country. I know nothing about CT though because there aren't that many drivers from CT currently on here. None that I see anyway.

I'm still going crazy trying to make a decision. I am not in it for the money I am in it for the experience but I don't want to be bringing home horrible checks at the same time. .26 cpm running the north east sounds very tough. I hear drivers on here saying how much the north east sux. I think the home time would be more of a promise being regional because it would be much easier to route me home if I am closer to home. I think USX has the best equipment for ALL starter companies. Everything is very impressive. It seems as if it's a bigger sleeper too than the USX trucks. I wouldn't know if that was true or not though.

Also at the same time, I would like to see more of the country. It would be more interesting to see states that I have never been to before like Texas, Mississippi, Alabama, Missouri, Wisconsin and many more. But ultimately my decision has to be a realistic one and it has to be one that I think I will honestly last doing this. I'm just happy that I do have two decisions right now. It's just time to grow up and make a decision!

    Dave,

They are both pretty much the same, starter companies. I was told by an oldtimer back when I started and was deciding between a couple companies, if your prepaired and confident you can make at either company. You will pretty much just get what ever piece of equipment available when you graduate and upgrade, could be a mid-roof, condo, prostar, columbia....that first year you will be more concerned with just making it through that first 6-8 months, after that drivers tend to get picky.....but thats the worst time to leave......just stay there that first year. All these companies are about the same, if they can see your able to do the job, dispatch will make sure your running and making a few hundred a week. If you find yourself sitting, it usually has to do with personality conflicts, being late, and just plain sloppy work ethics. At that point they are starving you, hoping you will quit. many guys come on here complaining I left that company, "they aint got no miles" and another driver is always moving and making good money. You will set that direction after about 4 or 5 solo loads, if on time or early, no damage, no babysitting needed, they will start feeding you work well, until you say uncle. If problems with anything, they will just give you pony loads and repowers till you leave........as they have that steady flow of new drivers in training.
