If anybody can help it would be greatly appreciated. I can't decide what I want to eat for lunch nevermind where I want to start my truck driving career so this is very tough for me LOL.

I have an opportunity to drive North East Regional for USA Truck and be home weekly (according to dispatcher) and I also have an opportunity to drive National (east of i35) for U.S. Xpress.

    U.S. Xpress
12-14 days out 2 days home
    .30 - .34 cpm sliding scale
    east of i35
approximately 3 weeks total training time

    USA Truck
    home weekly
    .26 cpm
    north east regional
    4-6 weeks total training time

I'm trying to be as realistic as I can with myself being a newbie and not knowing anything what it's like to be really out there on the road by yourself day in and day out. Home time is huge for me. I am liking the fact that I can be home weekly with USA Truck. Also the next biggest thing for me is training time. I got into trucking (last year with my B license) for the main reason of being alone. I love being alone. I would 100% never team. I like driving alone and am afraid that I will get stuck with a trainer that I don't like and can't stand and just want to get away from. This is why I am liking U.S. Xpress's 3 week training opposed to USA Truck's 4-6 weeks.

Pay honestly isn't that important to me. I just want to go somewhere that I really feel like I can last so I can move on. I know that I will not last forever at either of these companies. This is just a learning experience. However, if the pay is going to be a HUGE difference than yes it would matter. Can anyone help me please? Thank you all so very much in advance.

take a dump outside, then take a dump inside and see which smells worse. thats about where you are right now with deciding on those 2 companies lol.

ok to be serious, i would take us express just because the pay is higher, and less time with a trainer. as far as the trainer thing, i used to be like you, if i was working with someone i hated i would end up going nuts. what i do? i just bust their balls, crack jokes at their expense, nothing too insane but just rip on them a little and laugh. before you know it you'll be on your own. what'd you do to go from the B to A? take a whole class or what? i have a B license now and am trying to get the A but its f-n expensive!

Dude I got the WIA grant and it didn't cost me a dime!!! The WIA grant (stands for Workforce Investment Act) is a government funded grant. You do not need to be homeless to get this grant! Just go to your local unemployment office and ask them about it. Say you want to get your A license and you heard about the WIA grant. See if you are eligible. Go through the process man you can have a great chance of getting the grant so you don't have to pay anything and you won't owe anything either!

You do not to be unemployed either to apply for this grant. There are so many different criteria that you can fit under and still be eligible. Just try to get it. I didn't get it because I thought you had to be unemployed. I was stupid for thinking like that and spent $2000 on the B license. If you have any questions at all about this feel free to PM me I am more then glad to help. Good luck.

i read somewhere that your income cant be higher then 6k and some change for the last 6 months? mines higher then that something like 12 or 15k? so i dont know. ah screw it, i'll call them up tomorrow what the hell. i got my B license from mass rehab, when i was in highschool i got thrown out and put in a reform type school and a lady came in and said they will give me 3k to train. i picked CDL school for my B license, no real reason i didnt even care about driving trucks. but at least it propelled me because i realize now how much i love driving, being a lone with the radio going, i like to listen to talk radio a lot. i figure if i love it this much locally, i will enjoy it on the road.

Seriously??? Since have never driven OTR and never worked for either of these companies (that have a lot of pretty satisfied drivers on this board) can you explain to me why you feel you are qualified to make this judgment? I believe he was asking for advice from someone with actual experience. That would not be you.

I know you have heard enough from me, I would be concerned about those automatic trucks. After you have been at US a while and want to try for one of those better companies, that pay better, most are going to be manual transmissions, often 13 & 18 speed trannys. Those companies will be very leary of putting you in a manual transmission vehicle after being in a auto for a couple years......the biggest reason is safety, thats why some states will give you an "Auto Only" CDL if you test in an auto transmission. I think sticking with manual transmission company will give you more option in the long term.......its easy to go to an auto, not so easy to back to manual transmission and pass a safety dept test drive after a couple years.

Well these are my only two choice right now. If it was up to me it would be definitely a 10 speed. Doesn't USA run 10 speeds?

Don't listen to people man. Go out there and try it yourself. Learn for yourself. It can not hurt to try. Believe me I would not of wasted my time writing all that out if I didn't think you had a shot. They told me at the unemployment office that if you and your spouse made less than 100k for the year then you are qualified for it. That was just one of the many criteria.

Yes 10 speeds, but I know a guy in an automatic as well, it was they had available at the time he upgraded. I believe most of the fleet is straight 10s
