Having trouble getting a spare key made for company Freightliner. Problem is when I go into the hardware store, they do not have the key type. Is there an easy way to get a extra truck key made?

Best place would either be a Freightliner dealer, or next time your at one of your companies terminals have the shop make one.. I have two one stays in the truck at all times, and my spare on me at all times..

If the dealer can't cut one for you they should be able to give you a blank that you can get cut elsewhere. I've given up on hardware stores and go to a key shop and never have a problem. -
I got all mine cut at Wal-Mart.... even Freightliner
Volvo is the only one I've been unable to get cut, for obvious reasons.kickin chicken Thanks this. -
I go to a certain locksmith for all my key needs.

The key for my Cascadia is on a regular Chrysler blank.

Columbia, Century, and probably the newer ones use a Dodge pickup blank, you can get 1 made at Wal-Mart, the FLDs and Classics use a GM pattern, I think the blank is number 16, some stores have them others don't. Home Depot has cut keys for me.
Some parts guys can cut you a new one from the VIN, others sell you a blank to be copied elsewhere.
Western Star uses the old key for the ignition and a differnt key for sideboxes, can't get those sidebox keys cut from the VIN. -
Um, let me check with my local locksmith, as I know him pretty well, and I will tell you which GM key is the equivalent...
What year is the Freightliner? -
I was driving a Mack one time, stopped at a dealer to see if they would cut me a spare. He said they couldn't, but gave me a Mack key blank. Took it to my favorite locksmith who cut it for me. I've had problems with spare keys made at various places. So, I tried this locksmith. He's the only one I go to for any of my lock, or key needs.
Actually, the way I found him was a place I once worked had a big safe that started having problems. They called in a locksmith and he got it open. A week later, it locked up again, couldn't get it open. They called another locksmith, who got it open. And, a week later, the same thing.
But, they called this guy. He fixed it! Never had another problem with it after that. I was so impressed with his knowledge, that I started using him for all of my personal lock and key needs. Haven't had an issue since. -
when i was driving a shaker i got mine at walmart also, they should be able to figure it out, they told me that they didnt have a key for shakers but after trying it in the key machine they found a match
