Need some career advice starting in the trucking business here in buffalo Ny. I have between 15-20 months left on my GI Bill that I wouldn’t mind using for training to obtain my CDL. I drove many different vehicles in the army on convoys, road tests, supply runs, ect. I want to get into the industry for OTR or Regional to get as much experience as I can.
So I’m not sure where to start. I have no experience driving Semis and looking at most jobs it requires atleast 3 months experience. I was looking into Mega’s since they do training and they do not require experience but looking at a lot of reviews most pay 300-500 a week? I would be interested in getting my haz after I get some experience otr to understand the industry more but unsure where to start this journey. Any advice would be helpful in choosing where to start.
Some basic info-
prior military
30 years of age
Post 9/11 GI Bill
Looking for OTR or Regional(I won’t now picky where to start)
Location is Buffalo Ny

There was a time (& may it rest in peace) when about now I would have suggested Swift.
But lately....they have not been swift...at all.
Given the current state of freight (or the lack thereof) -- Leonard's Express would be a fine choice.
Your prior experience in the military will pay off handsomely there.
THANK YOU -- for your service to our Great Country!!!...

@xlsdraw drove for Leonard's Express.
If he is still active here on the Forum -- he can perhaps give you some insight on what to expect there.
Leonard's does both dry van & reefer loads -- but, given the current status quo with general freight, plus your military training -- reefer is probably the way to go.
Expect at least some high-mileage, cross-country runs.
