I just went to the DMV to get my CDL permit and after passing the General Knowledge Test the attendant tells me I have to take and pass the air brake and combination vehicle tests to receive my permit...

Is this true? I know combination is an endorsement. Not sure about the air brakes.

I tried calling the NC DOT office but it was too late in the day.

    Thank you.

You need combination if you are going to pull a trailer too.

Yea... you have to take all 3.
One thing to remember... if you don’t know an answer hit SKIP. You have to answer a certain number right to pass the test. Once you hit that number, the test stops and you passed. So if you don’t know an answer hit skip and hopefully you will pass before that question comes back around!!

What the DMV person told you is correct, assuming you are trying to eventually drive an 18-wheeler.

The tests are not hard. You should consider taking the tanker and double/triples tests at the same time. They aren't hard either and even if you don't plan on pulling them the more endorsements you have the more marketable you make yourself. And there are practice tests here on TTR that will help you too. Good luck.
