Hello all
I will be a trucker someday soon. I am currenty looking into schools. The one i am most considering is NTTS based out of Syracuse NY. It is a 4 and a half month program. It accepts Federal Financial such as pell grants and stafford loans.
My questions are
What is the reputation of this school in the trucking industry?
Is it neccesary to have a school last for that long when i see so many others last for a lot shorter?
Is $9000 too much for this school?
If youve been there, would you recommend it?
Thanks

Hello and Welcome to the Site
My suggestion would be to check with your local Community/Technical Colleges and their training programs. Compare the curriculums and prices to find the most extensive program for the investment. Best of Luck!

Welcome to forum sir. I am kinghunter (aka Hunter). In my humble opinion, 9K is wayyy to much. KC is right on the money when she said check out community colleges and their programs. to be accredited they must have a 160 hour training program. Also check out SAGE which has a school in Vestal NY and Rome NY. If you have questions, pm me for my email and I'll do my best to help you out.

I went to NTTS in Buffalo. I assume you meant the Liverpool school but also know that no one actually knows where the hell Liverpool is?
It's overpriced, and over sold by the "admissions" people who are actually your first contact with a recruiter. They will try and shove Werner and H.O. Wolding down your throat so bad you may lose your voice. However, ARG Trucking in Phelps will only consider students from NTTS AND they get you home daily on a 5 day work week. Contact Jim at ARG recruiting. They will drive you nuts just like any other company, but you can be pissed in your own shower and bed everyday. You will need your hazmat though as ARG hauls petroleum. It's a but more work but you can make 40k your first year and no matter what recruiters tell you from OTR training companies, you won't make that much with them. I pull about 1300-1600 take home every two weeks and I am home every day. Top scale will be more and I am not far from that.
I almost forgot. Don't waste your time on the longer course. Take the 7 week one or even the 4 week if you learn fast. They don't really teach you anything in that long course that you need. All you will know is enough to get your CDL and it doesn't take very long to learn how to pass a state test.Baack Thanks this. -
Hey Jeep,
I'm thinking of going with ARG in the Albany, NY area. how many hours do you work in a week there? They are telling me 7pm to 7am shifts, what days do you normally get off? And the first year it around 40? 45? what about 2nd yr? thanks! Bill -
I toured the NTTS here in buffalo, ny when I was looking for a school and I came to the conclution that they where overpriced and more of a license mill with I garontee of a job after the school was complete.
I found Con-way freight shortly after, they offered part time work on the dock while I was in their 12 week school that didn't just get me my liscense but taught me how to actually drive, back, and be safe on the roads. I've sense graduated and drive mostly line-haul runs. Home every night, off every weekend.
I know not all Con-way terminals are offering the school yet, but it may be worth a Phone call. -
I just came across this post as i was searching for reviews of NTTS.. I just made a call to con way and left a message for a guy named Al. I was wondering if you are still with Con Way? if so, how has it been going? if not, any reason? Is there anything you can recommend at this point or any pitfalls i should be aware of.. Thanks again!
