Not sure what you are asking for. When you lease a four wheeled vehicle from GM or Ford, do you expect to be on equal footing with them? Or a bad deal? For some, leasing a vehicle works for their business model, tax-wise.
My lease was for USE of the vehicle. I never had any intention of purchasing the truck.
If I operated a successful restaurant, do I need to own the building that it's in? Of course not! Property ownership is a goal for some business owners down the road of their plan. Not all.
I had a walk-away lease with Hill Brothers. I walked away. It was dignified and pleasant. I would recommend their lease to anyone. If you want to see a copy of what I signed, let me know. It's written in plain English and only five pages long.
There are successful lease operators from Hill Brothers on this site. I have yet to see any whining complaining from any of them.

So true. This company did the same thing to my husband.

I have been driving for National since Sept. 2010 as a company driver. Personally, I am please with them. My truck manager whom is located out of Liberal sure isn't my favorite person, but the company itself I am pleased with. As for the lease, I have spoke to many lease operators that are very pleased making quite a bit of money, and a few that they are not even getting paychecks at all. Personally, I think it is what regions they run. I prefer to stay in the southwest regional area, and staying in just the certain area like that will not provide enough miles to make it. So I stay company. As for a company caring for the drivers, although I cannot speak for any other terminals other than Irving, TX, in Irving, they do actually care, and they show it. If a driver has a problem, all they have to do is go talk to Kenny or Rick, and something gets done. I personally seen it, and experienced it. So will I refer National Carriers to someone, yes, I will. But will not testify about the lease, only company.

I was suppose to take a load to the Irving yard and t-call it. On the way there, with the trucks only able to go 65 mph, I was having a very stressful day. Then I came into rush hour traffic in Ft. Worth, and we all know how stressful that can get sometimes, especially when you are already stressed. When I got to the yard, Kenny told me I had to leave with the load and reweigh it. All the other times they allowed me to drop a load off with a scale ticket letting the next driver know what I did to make it legal. They obviously changed policies and didn't tell me. I mentioned to Kenny, the operations manager , that this was just another reason I didn't want to be there that day. He chased me down, told me to drop the trailer, clean out the truck and that I was fired. What is this world coming to when having a bad day and not wanting to be at work that day is justification for termination? They love to take control of everything the driver does, litterally. Upon inspecting the trucks every month, they climb up in the cab and inspect everything, and the driver is not allowed no where near the truck. Personally, I have a problem with that even though it is thier truck because that is my personal space, with my personal things in there. So, honestly, I knew it was going to come down to either me getting fired or quitting soon anyway.

Edmandel-The job is stressful. An attitude is optional. It's usually not a good idea to go off on a manager because you had a bad awful day. It never turns out well. As far as them going through your assigned truck when they want or need to, like you said - it's theirs and hopefully they did'nt toss your stuff all over when they were in there. The situation stinks when it is your stuff and some stranger is rooting around in the cab. I have not worked at national (and I'm sure not sticking up for them) but the carriers I have worked for did, and do, the same thing. Hope things go better for you and your experience at national does'nt hold you back. Good Luck.

In January I spoke to a Ellite about company/lease driver job in Irving, Tx. they were comparable to most fleets runnng 2500 to 3000 miles per week. The one thing that concerned me was the age of the equipment. The trucks and trailers that run out of Texas look abused, old and dirty. My first impression was if it is trashy on the outside it must be trashy inside. But in all fairness those were probably the dogs left over from Leasing.
Like that post said earlier Leasing is not ownership. A contract to lease a Truck entitles you to use of the property and pay for expenses.Last edited: Feb 13, 2011
