So I have a year old Utility Reefer trailer that has some problems with the trailer lights. I noticed on my right turn signal I was getting a fast blink like a bulb was burned out, but when I'd do a pre and post trip everything was working. So yesterday I get back from a week on the road and parked in my yard. I was getting the fast blink while parked and decided to check the lights again. I walk to the rear of the trailer and my upper marker lights and the three lower right side parking/brake/signal lights are all dimmer than the rest of the lights. Working, but dimmer. So I have a short somewhere. Picked up a new pigtail, hooked it up and no change. Pulled the cover plate off of the junction box that the pigtail plugs into on the trailer and found a couple loose nuts on the wire holders. Tightend them all down good, and pushed the plate back into the box and the lights still do the same thing.
So I have a wire that's grounding out somewhere. Anybody run into this before on Utility trailers? I hate to lose a day or two taking 50 miles to a dealer, but I can't run it like this.

It sounds more like you have a bad ground somewhere.
-
you have a flaky ground, start theres junction box where it all comes together, thats the place to start

Yeah I'm figuring a ground as well. I found it odd that where the plug plate fits into the junction box, all of the wires get shoved in there and could easily ground out on the side of the junction box. Seems like there would be some kind of cover to insulate them from rubbing the sides of the box.

It does sound like a ground. It also could be a bad light.
Good luckSteveScott Thanks this. -
Get a rubber hamer and tap on lights with everything on and watch for changes in bulb brightness, you may find a bad shorted out china made light that was replaced on road one night?

Pull all the lights out from the right rear housing, you may find a bad wire in that region.
I pulled a Wilson grain trailer, it was a real mess in there.
Recently with my Doepker trailer I had a short, blew the fuse, in my clearance lights, turned out to be in the license plate light socket.
Your problem will be where ever it is that the marker lights and the right tail lights all meet up.Tall Mike Thanks this. -

I've found an ABS light that was grounding out where the wires came out of the box behind the brake lights. Some times it can be the most minute thing that causes hours of grief.feldsforever Thanks this. -
