No, I don't really want to share naked pictures of my wife. But I do need your help answering some questions and I KNEW this would get your attention!! :biggrin_25523::biggrin_25523::biggrin_25523:

I've been on the road solo with Swift, out of the Columbus, Ohio terminal, for about a month or so. I've taken some kicks in the butt for doing things wrong. Mostly newbie mistakes. I am learning as I go and trying my best not to make the same mistakes twice.

This last incident has me perplexed and I'd like opinions and advice. It was a Friday evening and I was pulling about 42,000 lbs out of North East, PA, headed for Jacksonville, FL. All was going fine until I hit the beautiful mountains of West Virginia. That's when the truck seemed to lose all power until I eventually pulled off the road into a construction zone. The truck dials were showing oil, tranny, and water were pretty hot but nothing was bursting out of hoses. I sat there and let things cool down for a bit, then, after receiving advice from a friendly WV courtesy patrol, I gave it another shot to get over the crest of this mountain and up the next one. My truck pooped out quickly again and off to the edge I went a second time.

I called on-road, they contacted Hutch's in the area. That old dude showed up, peeked under the hood and said I'd need a tow. He didn't listen with a stethoscope or hammer on my truck's knee. Nothing! I guess he's such an incredible mechanic, he can just look at an engine to know what's wrong. He left in his pick up truck and I sat there waiting for a guy who was to show up with a Rig and take my trailer. I assumed someone would also show up to tow my Tractor. A couple hours later, some younger dude shows up, I drop the trailer in the slow lane, he hooks up, and says, "later dude!" I said, "Hold up! What about my tractor?" "I don't know", was his response. "Call your company".

There I am. Stranded in the hills of West Virginia. Fortunately, my truck would drive bobtail and I made it down from that mountain to sit in some little truck stop in Beckley. On-road told me I'd be there until Monday morning when I could take the truck to a dealership nearby. So,,,all day Saturday,,,all day Sunday passes.

Monday morning, I'm up bright and early, I take the truck a half mile to the dealership. I'm first in line and one of the managers or foreman comes out, takes a look under the hood and returns to discuss the situation with another guy. It's determined that they can't fix this and I have to drive to the other side of town where another dealership under same ownership can deal with me. Ughhhhhhh! I drive over there. I will say, to their credit, these folks treated me kindly, professionally,,,and the woman who was my main contact at this dealership was pretty darn cute! She didn't have a very thick southern belle accent, but she was easy on the eyes.

Around 4PM I'm told that the re-gen was forced, they found an exhaust leak which Swift authorized repair of,,,but the real issue which is what stranded me in the first place, was NOT authorized for repair. I was told to take the vehichle back to a terminal where the Swift guys would repair it. I was put up in a hotel to wait out the allowed repair on the exhaust. Next day (Tuesday) I'm allowed to take the vehichle away around noon.

This is turning into a book or novel isn't it? lol

I jump on the Qualcomm and send a free-form message to my DM. I wait. And wait. And wait some more. Finally, I call her. I tell her what's been going on,,,we need a trailer,,,I can't pull anything heavy. She looks for a load and a trailer. I'm eventually told to go to Hutch's and pick up a trailer. LOL Yep, the very same guys who took my trailer off the road and left me sitting there,,,I'm going to go visit them now. My buddy BamBam had told me before about some of the trailer's he's picked up and upon pre-trip inspection has been finding some real damage that needed to be reported so as NOT to be blamed on him. I learned from that and pre-tripped this trailer,,,you guessed it! I large ding in the top corner of the nose had even ripped a gash in the trailer. I report the damage....and wait...and wait...and wait some more. Finally, I call my DM again. She doesn't know what to do and tells me to call the claims department. Ughhhhhhh,,,,pictures, reports, all kinds of balogney later,,,

I'm told to simply deadhead it back to Columbus, Ohio. I arrive around 8PM. I drop the trailer and turn the truck into the shop. It's late Tuesday night. I tell the shop foreman about my experience and offer the paper work handed to my from the dealership. He refuses it and says, "our guys will figure it out on our own...we don't need that paperwork" I didn't want to argue with him. The dealership had already spent all that time and diagnostics on this truck and this Swifty simply wanted to waste my time, and the time of his tech's apparently.

Today is a full week since I've turned in my truck. Much was fixed on it yesterday, but it remains on shop status because they need a new wiring harness for the blower under the bunk (I have been without A/C for much of the time I've had this unit. I'm stuck several more days to wait for a wiring harness that I TRIED to tell them they would need a week ago when I turned in this truck.

I now have 8 new tires, a new exhaust manifold, some pressure sensor switch was replaced, a new 12v receptacle (the old one melted some plug I was using) and sooner or later, I'll have a working A/C unit in the bunk. ,,,,I"ve told you ALL this so that you'll appreciate the kicker of this story..........

When I called my DM today to let her know what the shop foreman had told me, she was very concerned that I had been on "VACATION" for a week (that was HER choice of words! LOL) and that I should be issued a different unit. Folks, I have been sitting on my rather cute bottom for 10 days trying to get this unit fixed. I now have all those improvements,,,and she wants me to move into some other probable headache????????? Are you KIDDING ME?

So! Here's the question.......What would you more experienced drivers have done were you in my shoes?

Thanks for reading all this and I'm sorry you don't get to see my wife naked!!!!! You perverts! :biggrin_25523::biggrin_25523::biggrin_25523:

I refuse to offer advice following false advertisements. However, were it me I'd want a different rig if it was newer to avoid possible continued downtime.

Ask for a new truck, immediately, after turning the old one in for repairs.

I honestly dont see what else you could have done. You followed company procedure and by all accounts were patient and quite responsible. It would seem to me that your attitude and handling of the situations should go down well in your record and with your DM. Sometimes stuff just happens. I guess what I have heard all these years really is true. That is, S W I F T stands for Sure Wish Ihada Faster Truck. If that is the worst thing that happens in your trucking career, consider yourself very lucky. Keep safe.

I guess the coin you have to flip, is whether to keep a truck you have been in for a while, and got it's problems fixed, vs. going into another truck with who knows what for problems and possibly more downtime.

my thoughts exactly, you did the right thing and followed the right procedures. How long would you have to wait to be assigned the next available unit? would it be any better than the one your in now? how would you know it would be a better unit? sometimes you gotta go with the flow. try using it as a bit of leverage on the DM with your next few loads. something like " I need some good loads to make up for my down time, i did the righty by you, how bout returning the favour" .

Hardlyevr,,,that's exactly my dilemma. I choose to stick with this one,,but as I said in the post, my DM wants me to move to another truck. It's frustrating
