Did a quick online search using this phrase.
"N14 oil pump needs priming procedure"
It shows information you want. -
as before: register your engine serial number in Cummins Quick Serve. all the parts are there. all the procedures are there.
-
Easy way is prime it before you install it….. by pushing a 1/2 a tube of assembly lube inside around the gears.
I have a small pump I hook into the oil galley right above the starter, pump a few gallons of oil in it and it should pick up fine when the engine starts….
blairandgretchen Thanks this. -
OLDSKOOLERnWV Thanks this.

Trying to remember, but thinking there’s a plug you can just put oil in on the front side of the engine. I’ll double check my Cummins book after while when I go to the shop…. -
OLDSKOOLERnWV Thanks this.
-
There’s all the info the Cummins manual gives.
Did you put any oil inside the pump where the gears are….?
-
Thank you. Not a significant amount. Can I add oil through the temp sensor port?
-
I’ve got my old pump took apart and I’ll examine it to see if oil supplied through that port will soak the gears. I don’t have the transfer tube from the pan to pump, on yet so I might be able to put a plastic plug in the sump inlet, before I apply more oil to it.
OLDSKOOLERnWV Thanks this.
