Your temps sound perfectly normal to me. Any dealership or cummins place could give u the piece of mind but in my opinion ur no where near the danger zone 225 or 230 is where the engine cuts itself off or deregulates ive never been to that point thankfully. I have a detroit that runs at 175 and Ive been wondering why it wont get hot lol. I will talk to someone tomorrow and be sure but I think your good to go on this one atleast I hope so cause mines running 10 degrees hotter then urs and has been for four years.lol

25x2 I'll be talking to him in a few minutes, so I'll get the answers to your question about the 500 or 525 and post back. On your other question, no, no fuel in the coolant since the inframe and he supposedly "washed" the radiator. All hoses were replaced new at the time of the inframe to eliminate future problems.

Here is food for thought bhw, you said during the winter, it doesn't get to warm I assume the temp in the cab? If that is the case see if you have a valve that you turn on/off in winter or in summer. My C-15 cat has one, and in the summer it is turned off so water won't flow to the heater core, and during the winter it is turned on so I get heat.. Some of the older models have 2-3 valves my newer 07 has only one..

    25x2 Ok, the motor is a 500.

DD, he actually says he has 4 valves and he says they are all set properly.

On a cummins N14 there are 2 thermostats,, behind those thermostats are screens,, yes they need to be there, if not the engine will heat up,, i know a company where a driver had his buddy take them out, then it started heating up, the boss found out and told him they have to be there, make your buddy put them back.. ask any cummins shop,, they WILL tell you the screens have to be behind the thermostats. or the cooling wont be right.

The thermostats will not really flow any coolant through them until 5-6 degrees F after or above the rating on them. Here is an example, your thermostat is a 180, it will not really flow until 185 to 186. So if yours is a 190 and you are seeing temps of around 200 degree F on a warm day on a hard pull then everything is OK. I have only had one truck (on accident, the other were on purpose) where it went in to protection mode and derated me because of coolant temp. It hit 230 degrees F. Most trucks I drive run around the 190 - 205 degree mark under normal conditions. Now these truck have newer engine which put out more heat than some of the older ones. Hope this helps.

The thermostats in my 97 n-14 are 190 or 195 degrees, my truck also only runs at 175 summer or winter and puts out enough heat to make you open the window if you leave it cranked up too long. The radiator is also the original one, with 950k on it and with 70k on the deck the alarm will go off just before the half way points of pocono mountain and snowshoe in Pa with my powerbox on level 3 or 4, if I shut the box off temps get just under the alarm temp. Did this twice a week for almost two years and never had a water temp related problem. 200 is nothin to worry about if the fan will hold it there
