Because I farm, as well, seems like alot of tractors(CaseIH, large Deere, Versitile and Steiger) all used Cummins. I can’t speak for long term reliability because I haven’t owned my Cats as long. That said, I really enjoy the torque at lower rpm’s the Cats afford. My gut tells me a 400 Cummins isn’t gonna work like a 400 B model.

The Cummins on the Ag side I like .. but I still favor the Deere motors mostly because I familiar with them and in my view they are Equivalent to a Cat

Probably my favorite Deere engines were the 8.1L. I run an 8420, 8410, 8310 and 8300 tractors and I oughtnt not brag on them but they’re good rigs. I got a pair of 4840’s that have the great 7.6L that have untold hours. Now, pound for pound the 8.3 Cummins in a pair of Magnum tractors and my 2 CaseIH combines have been wonderful. I had an 8.3 in a 10 wheeler but wasn’t impressed with it.

The 8.1 is my favorite .. hard to beat the durability & their pretty much bullet proof .. those old 466's where by far the best back in the day..
The 8.3 in the magnum are good also

I don’t know if they might have different part numbers but I can say that they are all interchangeable if they do. Don’t just replace the o rings unless you want a temporary fix. The plastic seems to also compress and won’t provide proper crush on the new o ring. It’s also pretty common to see them leaking internally along the contacts. Which obviously won’t be fixed with an o ring. Usually you have to pull the intake manifold to get 1 or two of them. Should be just enough wire inside the rocker boxes to be able to unplug the injector from the inside without taking the top apart.

I used a pair of forceps to hold the harness while changing the pass thru. Didn't have to remove cover. It is difficult to change the one behind the intake manifold.

If you take the cover off. I would replace the piece that connects to the injector also.
I think that's when I did it. Memory is a little weak.

What's the history on injector harnesses and pass-throughs? The pass-through has an o-ring that eventually seeps, same as a CAT or any other engine. And worked on N14's almost daily for 6+ years and don't recall an epidemic of injector harness issues, so was curious what you mean.
