We have a couple of ex felons working for us. I use the term ex felons because it's been over twenty years since they did their time and they haven't been in trouble since. In both cases it was too much booze and not enough self restraint. Neither one drinks any more either. I know both the guys and I know their families and I just thought they deserved a second chance. They've done well.
On the other hand I hired a kid last year that was fresh out of prison on a drug charge. Several drug charges actually. I hired him to be a shop helper with the understanding that he could work his way up the chain and be a mechanic if he stuck with it. Good opportunity.
Two weeks after I hired him he was selling tires and parts out the back door of the shop at night.
He's back in prison.
Win some, lose some.

Gotta love the drunk and fighting.
Many years ago, just out of the military a drunken brawel breaks out at the local bar. I on a whisky drunk get pulled in. Cops show, they basically try to abuse me physically, I unleash the hell fires of Satan on 4 of them.
Only reason I am not a felon is due to a good attorney and a family friend who at the time as a sitting judge could pull some strings.
Like I said just because someone hasn't been convicted doesn't mean they are all righteous.
As for the stuff going out the back door. I have seen that happen with people who had no record. However they do now.
By the way I still drink an occasional beer but haven't drank whisky since that night. It makes me feel ten ft tall
and bullet proof and everyone seems to be looking to start a Fight!Opus Thanks this. -
My suggestion was pure economics .
For Most felons getting a job is a requirement of being on parole or probation ,
employers know this and those employers that hire people with criminal records, pay them a lot less , because they can get away with it .
my nephew worked at a shop that hired a lot of former felons , and most of them lived an hour or more away, and drive to the job for slightly above minimum wage because they had to have a job for their parole and no one would else hire them .
They should have been getting paid nearly double or more for their welding skills etc . -
I caught myself doing 15 over in a 65. I read myself the riot act,
and then let myself off with a warning. The last thing I need is another speeding ticket.
