it is just another movie that makes truckers look like the scum bags that the rest of the world knows we are !!

In 31 years of driving I have yet to see the black dog or the pink elephant . However I have seen a few fairies more than enough queens and more lizards than a freight train can hold!!!

From what I have heard about this:

When your driving long hours and very tired, you mind can begin to play games with you...You can THINK you see a big black dog in the road but there is nothing there.
When a trucker swerves to avoid this supposed black dog, bad things usually end up happening.

I suspect that's created due to the black pavement.
Never seen a black dog that wasn't real though.....

Here is a thread on this forum about the Black Dog..

For me it was a huge pack of coyotes in the middle of the interstate and I swear I saw a leprechaun on I40 in Oklahoma. Knew it was time to pull over then.

If I get really tired my mind starts messing with me. Like ill see a blur in the woodline and think its a deer or somthing. I've only experienced it in a car I won't drive that tired in a big truck.

    Intothesunset Thanks this.

Got so tired once that I believe I started getting tunnel vision. It was at night, and I could see black shadows in my peripheral vision on the sides of the road and they looked as if they were running alongside of the truck. I'm guessing that was "black dog" or "black dogS". Freaked me out. Stopped as soon as I could safely do so and "invented" a parking spot at a T/A.

Back when I was in the USMC, I drove ambulance. One night when going from Pendleton to 29 palms, I swore I seen a white horse running down the road. I slammed on the brakes and pulled over. I took a walk and then stopped and grabbed some coffee. Never got that bad in a big truck, I get sleepy I stop nowadays.

The last time I saw the Black Dog it was not a Myth. It was a Mythter... I know 'cause I picked his balls off my front bumper. So ya don't have to worry about seeing him no more.:biggrin_25520:
