Shortly after orientation i got a call from my training coordinator. She let me know she hooked me up with a trainer that was about a 1hour drive away(great!). She also let me know that he was on a dedicated route, i was disappointed i wanted training experience all over, her response was that he travels all of the southeast. Im thinking im going to be traveling ALL of the southeast...well we ended up running only SC and GA only AL twice.

Also i didnt know that i had to help unload this whole freaking trailer, I seriously think that isnt fair at all! I signed up for OTR which means i want to be a fat lazy driver and bump docks, i dont want to touch freaking freight! I need driving training not unloading training! My trainer will also wake me up after only about 6-7 hr sleep(if that) because we have to unload a trailer, then i have to drive 10-11 hrs that exact same day on that little bit of sleep that i had!

Now my trainer is not a trainer at all, because he didnt teach me ####, the things i learned out there was because i found out on my own or from my own mistakes. I needed alot of training because my school was ###### and didnt teach me squat. for an example my school didnt teach me to couple and uncouple a trailer. So my first time i was about to hook to a trailer i let him know i didnt know what i was doing. I thought i was going to recieve a step by step instructional on how to do it correctly. his response: "just back up till you cant anymore". Even i knew it had to be more to it. So after afew weeks pass i came across a trailer that was to high, i dont know and cant tell if a trailer is to high because I DONT KNOW! So i go to back and im following the words of my trainer: "back untill you cant anymore". So i slowly back until i cant anymore, this time the normal click noise sounded alittle diffrent. i look over at my trainer and he is rolling around the seat talking about how i backed up to far and you are damaging my truck(way to late). We get out and im right on top of the trailer. we get the truck and trailer back to normal after about an hr later and found out i put a huge hole in the trailer. He gets mad and rags me for hrs and days, because simply i I DIDNT KNOW! that is pretty much all i learned when i was with him simply because of my mistake now i taught myself to get out and take a look at the kingpin.

My backing isnt the best i know that. When in training i have to do all the backs myself, well i didnt! i back very slowly because obviously im a rookie, i cant back full speed like he does. At nearly all truckstops he tells me to move and let him back because its a fastpace place, i know that but thats no excuse why i cant back it. i have to do a pull up or two with my backs, he gets mad when i have to do one because he says "this back is easy you shouldnt need a pull up", and i dont know one thing about blindsiding i backed blindside two times and everyone of those backs he told me not to pay attention to the blindside and got that side just turn when he says so and watch my sightside(WTF?). after he noticed im bad at blindsiding he never let me do ever again.
oh and cant forget he used to call everyone of his friends and brag about how bad i am at backing and how great he is at being the worlds best trucker!

I know you guys are like Why didnt you request for a new trainer. Well he was a cool guy untill the final two weeks, and thats when i noticed hey im not learning nothing with this guy and he wont teach me nothing new. I figured i was to deep into training to ask for another. i called her to ask for a otr driver after i found out i only ran 1 other state than my home state, but she said they had a trainer shortage and i would have been put on with the same account.

Oh and i almost forgot! All he did while we drove down the road was watch his stupid show! He taught me more about that dumb show and how to unload a trailer more than how to back up and drive a truck! oh and if we missed a turn it was because he was dazed out in that dumb show!

Sorry for the long post, im alittle pissed about my training experience and alittle scared that ill be on my own next week after having such horrible training!

What school did you go to that didn't teach you to couple a trailer ? You DIDN'T KNOW you should get your lazy ### out of the truck and check trailer height and fifth wheel jaws before trying to back under a trailer ? These are basics . Yes , your trainer should have told you but if your driving is that pathetic you might as well pack it in now before you cause some serious damage . You won't make it past a couple of months more anyway . You think OTR drivers don't touch freight ?:biggrin_2559:
Somebody better give you some towels . :biggrin_2553: :biggrin_25513:

If you think 6 hours qualifies as a 'little bit of sleep' then I think you're in the wrong business. I'm not knocking you or calling you a wimp or anything like that. But trucking is an industry where there tends to be times that you end up with 4 hours of sleep and you're happy to get that much. If 6 hours isn't enough for you to operate on safely, then this might not be the industry for you.

As on OTR driver you get a ten hour break around every 14hrs or less.. if you can't figure out how to work 6+ hrs of rest in there I think YOU'RE the one in the wrong industry. :biggrin_2559:

With the BFI's a lot of "sleeper" time is on the dock , especially with starving L/O's .
Still , The RedskinsWay should have refused to leave the sleeper without an 8 hour minimum break .

All I can say is wow ! It seems that you did no research into your chosen profession .

It also comes across in your post that you are a whiney know it all . You also seem to be the kind that thinks you are entiteled to anything you want without having to work to earn it.

Of course I am probably wrong and I hope that I am !

You do know you can ask questions during training and if you aren't learning then it is on you to make sure that you are learning what you need to be learning!

It is your job to learn how to do your job right!! You and only you are responsible for you and your training!!

Welcome to the real world !! Here we expect you to accept responsibility for your self and your actions . That includes learning about how to do your job properly.

But like I said I probably just read your post wrong . If that's the case then just consider all of what I said just the ramblings of a old crusty truck driver .

I think his trainer was freakin wack proly one if those truckers that feel everybody is dumb and doesnt remember he was a rookie one time. I trained 2 drivers last fall and they both liked how I teached. I will say my first student never driven a truck but I had him floating gears on the second day. It was also a B CMV when I was doing silo so no backing with trailers. My second student was female and she had 2 months driving Boss told me to hook up a trailer to haul a tractor and teach her how couple back n turns she got it in a week. Point is how u train does matter and makes a difference in a students future. I was asked by the Silo Boss to stay and work n train for them I said no thanks I dont like local I need the open road thats what I do.

I agree he is being really unfair to you. To get back at him when you have your sweet 16 birthday party, with the clown, and the ponies you shouldn't invite him. That will teach him.

In seriousness it sounds to me like instead of posting this on the message board you should be saying this to him man to man. Have a conversation not a confrontation and if that doesn't resolve things try finding a new trainer, just don't expect them to hold your hand.
