Does Millis have cameras inside the truck watching the driver? Sounds embarrassing if you are picking your nose or something....

    Lisa9 Thanks this.

Not all trucks have them. My understanding is that there are about 800 trucks in the fleet and as of January they had only purchased 300 cameras.
    P.S.
    Don't pick your nose.

Do the cameras record sound as well, or just video?

No one ever told me no. As a matter of fact in December at the safety meeting they showed a clip of a driver avoiding an accident and it was quite clear that there was sound. Dan Millis told everyone there...roughly 30 drivers, that the cameras recorded both video and audio. You can hate on the company all you like but how about NOT making #### up? If you want to hate...at least be honest .

If you're in Cartersville - just ask Greg or Jamie to show you the system and see for yourself how it works. Millis did a poor job of communicating about the cameras and their operation initially. They left that to "word of mouth" and this is the wrong industry to ever do that.

I have a few questions on Millis... 1. I have my cdl and long form up to date, but haven't driven since 09 and that was just for a couple of months, would take me in as a trainee where I could just report to their terminal and go with a trainer or how does that work? 2. What is the purpose of cameras in the cab of the truck? I haven't heard of that.

The policy at Millis is that you have to have 1 year of verifiable OTR experience, lacking that, you must take thier full training class, including school room work, even if you have your cdl. There are two cameras, and there are many extensive threads on this in the millis forums. The outward facing camera is to prove who was at fault in the case where a millis truck is cut off, or a driver recklessly causes an accident that a Millis driver can not avoid. It is there to protect you and the company from liability. The driver facing camera is there as an intimidating control factor. The idea is that if you know you are constantly being recorded you will not do anything stupid.

haha. That's one way to look at the driver camera.

From what I've been told and read elsewhere, the main point of the camera is to remove all doubt of liability in an accident. Just the road camera shows what happened obviously, but will always leave room for a good lawyer to shoehorn in that little bit of doubt about what the big truck driver was doing, and given the attitude of the general public that will comprise the jury that's more than enough to screw the big rich truck company. Having that driver facing camera shows that the driver wasn't distracted or asleep or whatever at the time of the accident and reacted as safely and quickly as possible.

So road camera proves about 80% the driver camera closes that 20% gap.
