I'm sitting here going over my permits for tomorrow's run, my Arkansas permit has me i30 at the Texas border going east to i430nb to i40eb on to the Tennessee border. However my Tennessee permit doesn't show my a designated route, my next permit is for Kentucky i65 nb. So i know what the obvious route would be, but i can't see Tennessee wanting to allow an oversize load to travel through Nashville, even on a weekend, because traffic still sucks. personally, I'd rather take 40 east them exit onto 155 north to go around the headache. This being my first od load going through Tennessee I've not encountered a permit without a planned route.
Should i just stop at the first scale in Jackson and see what they have to say? Assuming it'll be open?
Your advice is greatly appreciated
Attached is the copy of my permit for Tennessee, and page two is nothing but the permit cost plus the Tennessee State seal![]()

@TripleSix probably can give good information on that.

Up to 10' wouldn't surprise me to be "route not specified", i.e. take whatever route you choose, but at 10'11" seeing N/A surprises me.
Yes, I would absolutely pull around back if the scale is open and go discuss it with them. Perhaps this is correct, but you are justified in your skepticism.
@m16ty is from TN, and would be who I would reach out to for assistance...Professional Passenger, peterbilt_2005, cke and 3 others Thank this. -

I would agree with Hammer but stopping at the wouldn't hurt. If the route section were blank I would be concerned but since they put N/A I would think it's an open route permit kinda like a blanket.

Kinda brings up an interesting question to me that you over the road guys might be able to answer. I know in Ohio a 365 annual costs the same as a trip permit $135, it covers you up to 12' wide. If you were going to have pass through a state why not buy the blanket instead of the trip? I know some states issue blankets for weight as well, I used to have a Kentucky blanket for weight. To me that would be the ticket. I know that wouldn't work for super loads and if they were real expensive it might not be worth it. But like his load that's just wide you'd be good for a year.
4mer trucker and sawmill Thank this. -
@Gunner75 this may be of little assistance for you on your concern...
Tennessee oversize permits - regulations and information -
Tennessee doesn't route any of the loads I have pulled. I go through there at least twice a month. Usually 15'11" wide 99' long. Even the 19'6" superloads are not routed. For those we hire a scout car to run a few hours ahead of us to check the route for lane closures.
At 10'11" you should be fine anywhere. Don't be afraid to take two lanes if need be where the lanes get narrow.
