My husband was accepted to the school Feb 25, 2013. He was scheduled to ride a Greyhound bus from Little Rock Ar and CR paid for his ticket. He left Saturday and was due to arrive Sunday night around 10. In Denver they got stalled at the station due to weather and there were about 25 other CR students. After finally reaching somebody at CR, CR told them all to get a hotel room somewhere and they would be reimbursed the money when they made it to school.
Hubby got a room and the next morning the bus started again. They all made it there Monday night but CR apparently didn't have rooms for them so they put them in another motel nearby. The first day of class was highly disorganized. One group of students who had been able to make it on time and start that Monday were still on schedule but they expected the new group who just got in to still take the permit test in 2 days...they did later change that to 3 days.
When they had a chance they went to the hotel style dorms and found their rooms. The rooms are tiny and they cram 8 people to a room. The locker they provide is tiny and my husband had all his socks stolen and his sunglasses. CR does not provide any meals but they do have an expensive restuarant/grill and a convenience store.
When they asked about being reimbursed for their rooms while being stopped in Denver they were told they would be reimbursed after they started driving. Hubby passed all his tests with 90s, took his last test at CR and then he got his CDL. Instead of having a trainer lined up, many had to wait several days to go out on the road. They were told they'd be paid $25/day while they wait to go out OTR. He waited 3 days.
When he had been talking to his recruiter she said all he would have to pay was $140...$100 class fee and $40 for the CDL test. Then after he gets there he finds out if he does 9 months driving for them he won't have to pay the tuition, which is now $3000 something. If he just does his OTR training he will have a week after he leaves to start paying it back. The recruiter failed to mention that part.
Other students farther in the training told him they were having issues with being paid what they were supposed to be getting paid, still had not been reimbursed, etc.
Pay was supposed to start the Tuesday after they start driving so for my husband that will be March 19, so we will see.
He finally got a trainer and he left out Thursday night and drove to Las vegas, where he is still waiting because his trainer has a dedicated run so he gets home every weekend so he is stuck in the truck, at a stop, from Friday morning to Sunday morning. He has no way to cool the truck because the truck idles for 5 mins then shuts off. No fridge, no microwave, so he has spent more money eating from the truck stop.
CR also states on their website about the training program that the first week of driving you can request home time and they try their hardest to get you home within 2 weeks....that is BS, because they told him once he left that he can't leave during Phase 1 training, which is a month or 20,000 miles.
The cons with this company really outweigh the pros. My husband worked hard and he did get his CDL, but the overall company and how it is managed and ran is very poor. I don't know if they even know what they are doing. It just seemed to me that they witheld a LOT of info, and made it seem better than what it is. Their drivers get hometime about 1-2 days out of the month. They told him while he was doing training he'd be paid $430/week and once he gets hired on pay will start at a whopping .12/mile.
He has gotten to drive a lot so far and will rack up some miles which is good because he's going to finish his month there, then apply to Maverick. Their program is far better and I have heard nothing bad about Maverick, plus most of their flatbed drivers get home time almost every weekend.
If you are interested in CR, I'd say thoroughly research other schools first! I think there are a LOT better schools out there.

Wow, that's quite an adventure. I hope he finds a better company, they'll be lucky to have him.

That's a pretty detailed account. Did your husband read it over first to make sure everything was accurate? Why didn't he submit this post?
-
tell him to try applying just the trailer brakes (MAKE SURE THA HE IS ON FLAT/LEVEL GROUND THO PLEEEASE!!!), releasing the tractor brake, then the truck should idle so he can run the air for a little while w/o the tractor shutting itself off. I am assuming its a newer FL Cascadia that he is in.

Your just a disposable short term piece of equipment at CRE. I always tell anyone if they are considering going there just get your CDL and get out. This is only if you can't get into any other training program.
NavigatorWife Thanks this. -
Your husband plans on leaving CRE after a month training ? I hope you paid for the training in advance because you if not you'll be billed for it and CRE will not certify his training .

Back when I was a trainer with CRE I had a lot of former students find work elsewhere after their phase 2 training. The repayment plan is flexible. One student said he got it down to $100 a month.

Twelve cents per mile? There ought to be a law ...
While I didn't think it possible for my opinion of CR England to get any lower, it just did.Last edited: Mar 17, 2013

That's too bad what hubby is exp thus far. There was 25 of you starting the same day, what made your husband decide on crengland?

and as for paying. wait till it's a collection on your credit. file a dispute with the credit reporting company. 30 days later it be gone. end of story. and you got free training.
with soooooooooo many people going through them schools. no one will take the time to prove it's accuracy. and they don't bother with collection agencies either.
they are govt subsidized. they got there money. by charging you. is just a means for them to make extra money.
consider it one of them govt student loans that you DON'T have to pay back.
