This happens nearly everyday. I drive a 2012 international prostar. When I shut the engine off and open the door it will start honking the city horn in short rapid bursts continually until I put the key back in the ignition and turn it to on.
One driver told me it was an alarm to tell me I have not set my brakes but I have not once forgotten to set at least the truck brakes. I usually leave the trailer brakes pushed in unless I am stopping for the night. Is this the cause?
My horm starts honking rapidly when I open the driver's door

I'd suggest only exiting from the passenger door from now on...
Mr Ed, Mrh2008, Wild Murphy and 1 other person Thank this. -
Does it do it when you set both brakes?
Tractor and Trailer.? -
I turn the key to the accessory position and that honking stops in my Intl prostar.
-
Mine does it too. Shop told me security thing, like alarm, was all I could get from them. Turning key on and back off will solve it
-
I'd also recommend using the passenger side door only.
-
Did you leave the lights on?
-
I'd suggest slowing down your process, grab neutral, wait a second, set both brakes, wait, kill lights, then close your eyes and open the door. Would probably help to say a little prayer in hopes you don't wake up some disgruntled trucker at the truck stop.
Mr Ed Thanks this. -
It just seems to do it at random times. A different gentler alarm goes off when I leave the lights on. Even when I wait for a moment after turning the engine off the honking still goes off soon as I open the door sometimes. Even when I do not set both brakes the alarm sometimes goes off and sometimes does not. So I have no ideas. -
There is another thread on this that didn't crack the case as we'll.
