Ok, I started the school Monday October 29 2012. Monday morning I left at 3 am to make the drive up to the school. They have a sleeping room for students as far away as I am. So for the rest of my time there I was given the sleeping room for free. Anyway I digress, Monday morning we gathered in the classroom half asleep. The instructor came in at 6:45 to get the class going at 7am. We started at 7:30 when the rest of the students decided to show up. We started out with an introduction and a thanks for choosing their school. Then we dived right into the odot CDL manual. For the next week we read from the book highlighting all the important stuff. By Thursday we had made it to the combination vehicle section of the manual. Before we ready that part he took us out to the lot to how us all the parts of the trucks and why to check for when hooking and dropping a load. We all got a chance to give it a try ten we more back to the classroom to go through that section. For the rest of the week we finished the manual and had some pop quizzes. I'll keep adding more as the weeks go on. As for now, I love the school and the instructors. I'll keep updating as we learn more.

Thanks for the post. I was always curious as to how they combine book info and real hands on training. Do you feel they are conveying the knowledge to you in a way that make you graduate as a competent driver ?

I just graduated the class before you. Actually you might remember me as the big guy who came in and laminated the board for Mike. You made it past the most boring part, although it really helps sink the information in for the tests. The rest of it is the fun stuff.
If you really listen to the instructors youll get thru just fine. I personally had a blast there. Mike, Ben, and Brady made it very enjoyable to me, and they drop a lot of good information in their stories. I aced my tests and start my new career next tuesday. -
Jbatmick, Yes I absolutely believe they pass on the knowledge to become not only a competent driver, but a professional driver. And yes Stickmaker, I do remember you. I think it's cool how other students come in to visit and give their impression of the school
. I'll be back at it tomorrow. So I'll keep updating this as I go

Monday week 2. Today we gathered in the classroom for a quick brush up, and quize then we all went down to dmv to take our written tests. Only about half the class passed, you could really tell who put effort into it an who didn't. After DMV we all went to the backing yard and practiced our pre-trip and backing techniques. We also got into shifting some. Tomorrow the half that didn't pass their written tests will try again. We'll see if they study any more. Myself and 4 other guys now have our permits and will start training on the road tomorrow morning. Hopefully we will be joined by the crowd that failed today's tests. I'm starting to figure out what trucks I like and what ones I don't like. So far the freightliner is one of my favorites. I might try the Volvo tomorrow though because the teacher keeps saying its even nicer and easier to drive than the freightliner. That's it for today
tomorrow morning there is a recruiter coming in to talk to us before we head out. I'll write again tomorrow. Night folks

Sorry I haven't posted in a while, I've been very busy. I graduated wednesday with 99% on my pretrip, and 100%on my drive test.
I highly recommend this school to anyone looking at getting into the industry. Mike and Ben are very skilled teachers, with lots of experience. The trucks are in good condition, Not new, but not old and ratty either. Upon graduation I had a job lined up that didn't work out. I called Thad in the office and he gave me a list of other companies and I had a offer from Knight the next day. Hopefully this one works out

I graduated from IITR September 2001. After taking a few years off trucking, I went to Elite in Hillsboro. Both schools will get you a CDL. Elite made it fun! The faculty is GREAT (love ya, Mike!) I couldn't wait to get out of IITR and when I checked back with them before going to Elite, they struck me as only interested in my tuition payment. I went to Werner right out of IITR. After Elite I had several offers, and continued support from Elite when I wasn't sure where to go. Best recommendation I can make: ELITE!

I went to IITR and hated it. They treat the students like dirt and pick on you (Ron and Dan). They have a low IQ and the equipment is a joke. I hated every minute of that place except Jeff. He was pretty cool and a good instructor. All the rest were very unprofessional.

How about some of you who went to this school in the past tell us where you are now, and how you like trucking ?
