I’m not very knowledgeable on CB troubleshooting but I want people to hear me and vise versa. I can only talk with people who are within visual distance, like a parking lot.
I have a Uniden Bearcat 880. It once worked pretty good in my last truck for 2 years (2015 KW680) It is now plugged into my new 2018 Volvo. Stock dual antennas. I just learned this week how to check the SWR after calibrating it. I did this check using the onboard meter that the Bearcat 880 has built in.
My SWR is sky high, like 3-4. That’s my issue right? What can I do?
My CB has no range

Well last i remember the volvos have their coax pieced together and have a box(forget the name)that screws up stuff PLUS im gonna go with a ground plain issue as well..Could be the ground cables on the mirror arms corroded even if trk is new..
IluvCATS Thanks this. -

Cats if your half as much trouble/hilarious on a cb as you are on here....it might be a good thing you can't reach more of the masses.
I bet it'd be entertaining as hell tho...

Ohmmeter to check coax continuity.
Antennas can fail internally. Wiggle them around sort of and see if SWR changes. Those RAMI antennas good design but questionable build quality. If good, still worth tuning.
I’d be getting new antennas anyway. Measure base and order Skipshooters to 13’5” height.
Bypassing coax with new and better quality worth considering. Find routing and determine if you want to. An RG8X co-phase setup with FME ends easiest.
BUT now to add a stereo radio antenna.
OR, just coax to one antenna, bypassing factory. The one that’s NOT the AN/FMIluvCATS Thanks this. -
Make sure your antenna(s) are not mounted close to anything, make sure that you have good grounds, check for open or shorted cable. If you had the antenna mount itself apart that you assembled it correctly, common mistake in assembling the mount is getting the insulators in the wrong place causing it to ground out. Unhook your coax and check it end to end making sure it is not shorted between the shield and center conductor.
Some stuff to check. Hope it helpsIluvCATS Thanks this. -

A high powered linear with a high SWR won't get people hearing you for miles, but they can see the smoke.

Oh great,a useless, stupid and not so funny post and shows ......awwwwww never mind, its just a stupid freakin post that adds nothing..._33 Thanks this.
