I just arrived in South Carolina a couple of hours ago, Carolina Cargo put me up in a decent room at the Motel 6 in Richburg SC. The room is clean and the area is safe, plenty of places to eat. Tomorrow is the first day of orientation so I'll keep posting as my journey with CC continues. I have attached some pics of the room for those who want to see what the room CC books for you looks like.

Forgive us jaded folks, for we have sinned.
Please keep us posted. -
I've been in "that" room. It's just modern, it's all still cheap, lol.
I'm interested in hearing more about Carolina Cargo, in the same way that I enjoy horror films. Good luck to you, but it's not too late to consider other options before you actually get hired on.
EDIT
I just checked your profile and your posts you've made. I don't usually side with most people with bad backgrounds, but the fact that you can form a sentence in your posts makes you seem more intelligent than most on here, makes me feel bad for teasing you.
You're going to have problems with major carriers. As a poster above stated, companies like Schneider will most likely pass on you no matter what. You won't get a sit down meeting/interview and you're not going to be looked into. Your resume is basically going to be stamped with the terms felony and drug charges and thrown out. Major carriers are not going to care that it was only marijuana and that attitudes are changing, it's a drug charge. Drugs are bad, M'kay? Definitely going to want to go with smaller places that will actually look at you as an applicant, not the hundredth guy that filled out their online app that day.
You found the place to start at, that's probably the biggest step in your situation, other than now having to actually work and deal with the same stress as every other student driver, but for... Carolina Cargo. Don't quit Carolina Cargo until you find another job, even if you aren't getting miles, it's much easier to gain employment with another company when you currently have a job. Finish your training there, keep learning how to actually drive on your own for a few months (training's not gonna have you anywhere near "trained", plenty to figure out still), and by the time you have 4 to 6 months experience, start trying to find other work. Mega OTR carriers probably won't touch you still, but I wouldn't lose much sleep over them, lol. You want the guys with less than a hundred trucks, the businesses where the boss can name most of his drivers kinda place. They'll actually look at you as a person instead of your background, hopefully. Obviously not all are going to be like that, you'll still have it tougher than others, but you've got actually got a chance with smaller guys. Don't stick with Carolina Cargo longer than you have to. I wouldn't suggest staying OTR longer than necessary actually, haha. I don't see a lot of "gold" posted there, but check out the jobs section here, seems like a lot of people with a few empty trucks willing to consider things the big guys won't.
Good luck, and definitely keep up reports of your experiences at Carolina Cargo. It's important to let people know what they're in for their, whether it's not as bad as people may think now, or to reinforce that you should steer clear. These threads can help more than just you.Last edited: Oct 28, 2014

Brandson - I've picked up a lot of diamonds from the dirt - I'm on the guys team.
Besides - what better perspective and informative thread from a driver who truly is in a position to appreciate an employer - despite all the negativity. -
Motel 6 is remodeling it's rooms one hotel at a time. The Studio 6 in El Paso where I sometimes stay is in the middle of remodeling.
TruckDuo Thanks this. -
Day 1 of orientation, was very long and full of paper work, after lunch our driver manager spoke to us and answered all of our questions. We were also shown how to use the navigation and communication system. I talked to some of the drivers and almost all are there to get experience and move on as I am. Nothing exciting to post, so far so good.
The Challenger, Brandson, carolinaboi28352 and 4 others Thank this. -
Brandson,
I take it you have worked for Carolina Cargo... Who are you with now?
