The vast overwhelming majority of newbie drivers don't make it past their first year...what makes you think your brother will? Judging by what you've said about him, the odds are he'll be paying for acquiring a CDL without a driving job instead in one year. Indeed, in less than a year.

Don't underestimate the power of a dream. No need to dump cold water on that dream.

Turn the dream into a goal and break it down into achievable steps, then start knocking them off one by one. It isn't an easy "road" to getting a CDL and making it through the first year, but take comfort in the fact that thousands of people have done it before you.

But tens of thousands have failed . That's why starter carriers run fresh meat through orientation every week then send them out to recover abandoned trucks .

He better bring money for first few weeks so he don't starve out there on the road. If u have child support, car loan or have to support a family better don't even go. Get a good phone carrier so u have connection. Be prepared for bad treatment from everybody. Companies like these are creating turnover so they can hire more peope and get government money.

Not to be a prick but this guy is exactly what is wrong with this industry. The mega's scraping the bottom of the barrel for new steering wheel holders. The guy is an admitted thief, who wants to be trusted with 100K or more worth of freight. To top it off he has so little self respect he is too fat to tie his own shoes. Only in America can people like this be allowed to exist.

I may sound harsh but I am from Texas and I spent 13 years pounding with the Marine Corps and weakness like this is not tolerated. OP use some common sense, if you want to know the truth about your questions pick up the phone and call a Swift recruiter. Better yet, tell your brother to do it. The recruiter will tell him all he needs to know in about 60 seconds and it will not be second hand opinion or conjecture. If you brother is so concerned about his criminal record and his weight then he will get off his ### and fix those too. People like you cannot carry him through life forever. Let him figure it out for himself. You are not doing him any favors despite your best intentions. You are in fact hurting him more than you know.

Have your brother spend the next 2 to 3 years of his life getting himself into the best physical shape of his life, along with changing his eating habits and putting the best nutritious foods and supplements into his system. Also, make sure that your brother is employed for a full 3 years to satisfy D.O.T. requirements.

Equally important, your brother must remain clean both physically and legally, that is, no drugs or illegal substances in his body, and positively staying out of trouble with the law. It is going to be a lot of work on his part.

    Good luck to your brother.

God bless every American and their families! God bless the U.S.A.!

One good thing in your favor is that the charge did NOT include "with intent to sell".

Good luck to you! God bless you and your family!
