Muncie PTO won't disengage

I have a 99 sterling tri axle dump. Detroit 60 12.7 10 speed the PTO wouldn't disengage kept grinding. Had to drive with it engaged.Was messing with it tonight and finally got it to disengage my flipping the PTO switch about 10 times or so any ideas ? Thanks in advance.
