As most of you are aware, Kenworth factory mufflers the exhaust enters and exits on the same end of the muffler. Years ago I cut the the end of my mufflers off and gutted them, did see an increase in fuel mileage and throttle response afterwards. I ran it like that for a couple of years before I got rid of everything under there and went straight from the Y-pipe to the stacks, I did not notice any difference in fuel economy or throttle response/power from doing that. After I put the bullydog tune in my ecm I now have a drone that is driving me crazy from 1300-1500rpm. I put resonators behind my sheilds on my stacks and it helped some, but it is still there and I am sick of it. If I put my factory gutted mufflers back on with a tuned ecm do you think that there will be a negative impact on fuel mileage or power?

Based on what u have said , no . I don't think u will have a negative impact , or maybe a very small one, but the peace and quite would be better I think.

i forget the number of inches of back pressure, but the factory KW muffler is the worse. I've seen before and after dyno runs simply removing the muffler and its quite a difference. Get the Grand Rock M-922 and you'll love it. No too loud and no drone.

The side stacks on my previous truck, Intl 9400i, used a muffler underneath that was in and out the same end. I just took it off, had curved exhaust pipe made up, put on a 10" resonator, and problem solved. Nice "U" shape and good exhaust flow. Haven't seen the Grand Rock setup, but I know that Pitts Power has several high flow muffler with "U" shape pipe setups for direct plug and play on KW, Intl, etc.

Can someone tell me what Drone means, I have an 07 kw with a c15 ACERT AND I also want to remove thst restrictive system and was thinking of doing same thing by simply routing straight into a Y pipe and out side stacks, with a single resinator before the y pipe

A drone is a Y pipe off of a 6 cylinder engine. Mainly for show. 2 stacks look nice. You can tell if one stack fires first. Cali started it first.

And it typically only occurs at certain RPM's. On my acert it is from 1300-1450 rpm, right smack dab in the middle of my cruising RPM. A drone occurs when the exhaust reaches a certain pitch and resonates or vibrates thru the exhaust, sometimes it can be eliminated by using rubber isolaters between the mounting points of the exhaust and the vehicles frame. I never had a drone with my truck until I got a tune put in the ECM.

try running a weed burner . don't like them but will take care of all your problems. know a lot of guys that run 8 to 10 stacks on there 379 and w 900 but run out of a weed burner stack for looks plus when you run exhaust out the bottom stacks stay looking like new.
