Lets see the federal law, if your telling the truth you should be able to find it in the green book and post it here.
    But you wont find it.

Please stop posting things that aren't true. It just confuses members.

You should so others can see exactly what the violations were and in which state(s).

I have posted information that quotes the statutes regarding mud flaps and almost all of them specifically exempt truck tractors from the requirements when attached to a trailer, or make reference to the rear or rearmost wheels (of a combination) being the only ones subject to the regulation.

In the absence of such information, your post is merely opinion and not fact.

Back in school (CT) most of the yard tractors and all of the road test tractors did not have mud flaps on them.
This was because if ANY part of the tractor or trailer went over the line you failed. The first thing to cross the line would be the tractor mud flap and why they were removed.

Now could a DOT person in another state get you for it........?????
BTW the test trucks also went into NY for students to take their tests and they never had issues.

It is a state-by-state issue. Some states like Texas and Missouri say 8"...others like Illinois are 12". Other states use a formula to determine if they are necessary and how long they need to be based upon how close they are to the rear tires and the angle up from the road to the bottom of the mudflap or the rear of the truck/trailer body.

As far as on the rear of the tractor is concerned, you aren't required to have mudflaps on your tractor as long as you are hooked to a trailer...but IF YOU HAVE THEM, they had better have the reflective tape on them. You can be cited for no reflective tape on the mudflaps even though the mudflaps are not required. If you had not had the mudflaps on the back of the tractor? No violation. I keep mine stowed on my catwalk when I have a trailer hooked up. Keeps them from getting tore up while I'm pulling a trailer.

I agree. I had a Level II in Iowa. Cop walked around my truck 3 times trying to find something wrong before he pointed at my mudflaps and said I needed reflectors/reflective tape on them. I told him I didn't even have to have flaps on the tractor when pulling a trailer. He agreed, but said since I had them, I needed the relectors.

lol, agreed, and never ever, ever, ever, retreads, used, low wear, etc. on drives... i've had drives blow up tear up side faring, bend fuel tank......i'd say weigh the consequentials if full fenders are worth it. i gotta admit they look pretty, but like "PMracing" says inspection, maintenance might be a extra time consuming issue, also....

Agreed, although fed is supposed to supersede state, ya run tha risk of some "jack boot" zealot writing up some state statute......i had a tx agent write up warning for no mud flap, even though i was hooked to trailer, even after i also volunteer to install previously purchased flap i had stored away. i just owned the responsibility to replace when i purchased it, vs wasting time arguing, it was all he had anyway....guessnhe needed it for a quota. i've also had friends written up for not having reflective tape on mud flap.......i just keep mud flaps maintained for safety, help prevent ejection of rocks, etc.., even with trailer, prevent 4 wheelers, etc from claiming damage, especially in winter driving, where theres usually some chunks, rocks, etc laid down with road salt, etc

Depends on what your doing.. a lot of places have local/regional requirements for dump trucks / aggregate trucks have to have their wheels covered almost fully to keep rocks from bashing everyone and everything.
