Hello there. My boss is yelling at me because I keep losing mudflaps on the tractor. The brackets are the plain old bent square steel type. These brackets keep snapping. I HAVE yanked a flap off on a curb, and I know that backing into things is bad. However, when I'm bobtail on the freeway and bouncy af, I get to watch my mudflaps snap off at the bracket in my mirrors every few weeks. But boss wont believe me. He's telling me that can't happen. He says something I'm doing is breaking them. Is there anywhere on the web with an illustration of a cheap bent square steel mudflap bracket snapping, or any record of it? I need to work with him to get better/spring loaded/something brackets. ... Help?

Can you post a picture? Sounds nutty, but the first company I drove for called that a chargeable accident.

Whatever they look like they shouldn't be coming off just driving down the road. Either they're not being installed properly or you're damaging them somehow.

Anything breaking off your vehicle while driving is a hazard for other motorists. Fix the problem before something bad happens.

Seems the soft rubber mud flaps like to flip up and ride on top of the tires when a truck is bobtailing.
Make sure they put on a real stiff mudflap

    Lepton1 and tinytim Thank this.

This (snapping) is common with these, especially when bobtailing frequently

Best thing to do is replace with this type below. These won't snap as easily on rough roads as those above that don't have the flex curl. Regardless, make sure you use the properly applied cotter pin to keep them from jumping out of the holder

I like the heavy rubber flaps but it sounds like the brackets on the frame are worn or the wrong size allowing that much bounce.

Make sure they ain't hitting the trailer frame on turns, and causing problems there.

Lepton1 and Big Don Thank this.

Tell your boss to replace those cheap brackets otherwise boss may start charging you for mudflaps.

I was just going to post what you said. With our P & D tractors, we had to remove the mudflaps for at least some of the trailers, or they'd break off. It's a pain to have to deal with taking them off and putting them on again all day long, when you do a lot of spotting trailers, or grabbing ones that are ready to go.

    Lepton1 Thanks this.
