Not alot of movers on here. Plus not alot of folks are physically cut out for the job. You cant relie on lumpers to load your trailer every time or you will pay out the waazoo in claims. @Sharky88 care to add?

I recommend them fairly often to drivers under 21 yrs. old to apply for driver helper.
I remember one post a guy went to United after driving school and another went to Mayflower Transit. Most moving companies require a year exp. for OTR, but times are tough these days finding drivers. -
18 yrs moving experience and I own a 3 truck company. If you have a CDL and still have the want for physical work I would say flatbed work or food service delivery(food, soda or beer ) . Money is good but physical toll offsets the money . My wife manages our company and I'm out here with USA truck as a new driver , burned out from the moving business.
Chinatown Thanks this. -
Just was asking cause one of my hs friends made 40k as a helper last year so just wondering what the drivers make

Ever notice many of the movers have the big custom 200" or whatever sleeper rigs. That's because there's three laborors and the drivers wife living in the thing. But they do gross some cash if they work hard. Many can gross over $300k per year to the truck. It sucks though I bet. You either hire two crack heads for food and $50 bucks a day to live with you in that bunkhouse sleeper or hire expensive lumpers at your final destination (house/condo).

Wow there are a lot of misconceptions about movers. I think some of the comments on here are funny. Yes a lot of bed bugs do have large sleepers and if you think we are letting lumbers stay in the truck your nuts!. If a mover only grossed $300k. He would be loosing his ###. Yes the money is not what it used to be but you can still make a living. Most movers got into the business because of family. About 80% of the movers out here come from a family moving backround. Well it used to be anyway. You won't find a lot of movers on here because we like to keep secrets. We don't like to let it be known what we gross. That being said an average mover will gross around $400k/yr be we do have a lot of expenses. The rates have dropped just like every where else and there are a lot of discounts. But we still make a living. A lot of us like myself have moved on to do special commodities. We use the skills we acquired in the moving business ( padding, strapping, loading). Most drivers do not want to do what we do. We do fingerprint every thing that goes in our trailers. Most drivers just want to sit behind the wheel and do nothing. We do use lumpers. They make $15/ hr. They are not paid to think so being a good manager of people is a must. There is so much more to the business, but it would take several pages to explain it all.
