I was thinking of moving my air compressor intake out of the pressure side of the turbo boost. Thust increasing the boost slightly.
I would think this leakage to the compressor has to slightly hurt turbo boost and there is no need for it on a good compressor.
So I'm considering moving it to the intake filter before the turbo.
Please give my your thoughts on this.
I have a 99 Cat. 3406e motor, twin side can air filters.

The compressor will build air quicker if it is taking in pressurized air. Between the filter and the turbo where you are considering moving the intake, there can be negative pressure as the turbo is trying to suck air through the air filter which is restricting air from entering the system. That lack of air at the intake could cause even the best air compressor to fall behind.

Personally, I don't think it would be a good idea.

Volvos are like that but they build air very fast.

I don't think you will see a boost increase unless the air compressor itself is defective. In that case, rebuild the compressor. A healthy compressor will not bleed off boost unless it is actually compressing.

Actually did just rebuild the compressor as it had many miles and hours on it.
And the intake before the turbo shouldn't have any negative pressure as I have dual massive air inlets feeding dual 5" inputs into the single turbo. Peterbilt only puts dual can air filters on for looks but both are actually functional.
I was going to move it to an area futhest from the turbo.

But would still like further opinions.

I would say that Boost is set at a predetermined amount which means regardless if the Compressor is running or not it is going to be the same amount of boost to the Turbo. I would not mess with it.

The volume of air a compressor uses is a drop in the bucket...

    I'd leave it alone

I moved my air compressor intake on my acert. I put it in the piping up buy the fire wall before it tees into 1 pipe It's a kw with dual air filters. I did it for other reasons. Very long story. But truck builds air just fine. 6 axle all air ride with lift axle. Air compressor keeps up just fine . And it's been 4 years.

But I did not solve my problem , air compressor blowing lots of oily crap. Tks cat!

But no compressor issues with the sdp series right......................I'm over it .....sigh !

I've ran a compressor mounted filter off a gas engine for years with no trouble. Has a little small round filter to change every few months. Keeps from losing boost when the drier pops off.

Boost is not set at a predetermined amount.
yes it is a very small amount. Approx. .75" opening to compressor when running, and .125" when not, but this is a leak of turbo boost.

I've got a '99 3406. The previous owner had the compressor intake hose removed and a new hose drawing ambient air in thfough a cheap breather filter from Auto Zone. I reconfigured the mess back to stock when i replaced the compressor. The engine performance is unchanged; however, the compressor builds air in a fraction of the time when at highway speed. Why fix something that is already working fine and as designed by Caterpillar engineers? I would bet they, a team of engineers, know more about my engine than I will ever know.
