I will be replacing the interior of my W900 sleeper and figured at this point it would be a good idea to mount some
    beacon lights on the roof.

Kenworth/PACCAR makes a bracket for this, but it costs $463 each.
That's insane....although the idea and mount is perfect. Still too much.

So I was looking at a "Z" bracket and mount it to the back of the sleeper but then was wondering why
I couldnt take a permanent mount lamp (like the one below) and simply mount the base to the roof of the sleeper
and then attach the light to it's base. It's only 6" tall.

Any thoughts on why this might not work or might be a bad idea?
I will seal it properly of course....The base mounts with 3 #10 screws according to the directions but I might use something a bit different.

I have them mounted on the roof.
Just buy quality lights and seal it.
    Your sleeperroof is aluminum?
Then i would suggest you make a plate similiar in size to the bottom off the light so it is supported on a large area.

Don't know if I would do it myself, I learned about drilling holes in the roof.

    My sleeper roof is fiberglass.

I have drilled holes in the sleeper the last time I had the inside sleeper headliner roof out.
We mounted 5 cab clearance lights directly to the roof.

I would use some type of bracket between the light and the roof. That way in the future if you need to replace the light you don't have to disturb the roof.

I'd like to see what a $400 pac bracket looks like. Got a pic?

Will the light Bo over 13'6"? I don't know how high your sleeper roof is.... Why not mount to a headache rack?

I have in the past, mounted them with just adhesive silicone. Holds them and water seals.

These lights would only be 3" taller than my current clearance lights..

Here it is...cab mounted instead of sleeper mounted but same idea/parts.
K051-606-2POL and K051-606-2REOL are the KW part numbers. $463 each.
The light is a Grote 76223 and about $115 each. Old mechanical/incandescent.

Fiberglass............i would put a steel plate on the inside otherwise you will have to much tension on to small an area.

    Look at it this way:
with the base steel plate you can be shure you will not have trouble in the future.
Without it ,you are never shure the roof will hold up.:biggrin_25525:

Added advantage with mounting them on the roof is that you can be shure no water will enter.

Good idea. I need to see where I will mount these. The roof has 'channels' in it for structural reasons and that can make stuff like this challenging.

The problem with mounting them on the roof of the cab is that they aren't visable from the rear due to the height of the sleeper. Can you have a pair of nice stainless brackets made and mount them to the top of your cab extenders? That way they are visable from all directions.
