I have a 93 Freightliner and the air powered wipers will come on but they are
sluggish. I am surprised they had air powered wipers at that late date but anyway
I need to get them moving a lot faster. I am not sure they will pop on in an inspection
and I want better performance when the rains hit Oregon in the fall.
Can they be rebuilt?
I was thinking of installing an electric motor but it may be more of a
can of worms than I anticipated.
Thanks
More gusto from air powered windshield wipers?

Usta could but those companies are probably all starved out of business by now.
Oh you mean yourself? I gave up on that years ago but if you use that search block on the top right there has been some discussion on that. If you do not get replies ask your question in different ways. -
I've got Sprague air wipers on my ol' KW. If you disconnect the air supply hoses to them and put a few drops of air tool oil down them that will help a lot.
-
Air wipers will not fail unless you get something in the lines Ozdriver has a tidbit for you on that. For me it's a few drops of alcohol the kind you poured to unstick the trailer brakes back in the olden days into a glad hand.
In a winter storm they will stick now and then. A slap gets em going. You are probably running a conventional so that will not be a problem due to the heat up forward unlike a cabover.
Never you worry about DOT on those precious wipers. They'll find something else... -
I removed the motor and pulled it apart and cleaned it but that didn't help. I'll try the air tool oil.
Thanks

X1 heavy, You got that right. LOL -
I am also thinking about mounting an electric motor on the passenger side and
hook the linkage up to the passenger side wiper. There is existing linkage from
the passenger side to the drivers side wiper. These air wipers are more trouble
than they are worth. Thanks everybody for the help -
I tried to get the ones on my '86 Pete working after I bought the truck. I also looked into going electric but that was going to be a chore getting the linkage right (my truck doesn't have a linkage). I eventually gave in and bought new ones. They are Sprague from my local truck supply store. They were ~$300 CDN each. No regrets.
OLDSKOOLERnWV and x1Heavy Thank this. -
300? Each.
#####. Used to be you could toss one on there for peanuts. (And did) back in the day. Inflation maybe?
I need a few stiff drinks before I hurt myself thinking that airride seats are 1500 or whatever today compared to what I remember in pricing decades ago.rank Thanks this. -
The old air wiper days, In the winter you reach out the window, give the wiper a flick to knock some ice off like @x1Heavy said
-
On my cabover the park function slams em home hard enough to shake any ice off them.
Real trucks have air wipers y'know...Shedlock2000, OLDSKOOLERnWV and rank Thank this.
