I have a 1998 Morbark 1300 Tub Grinder. Cat dealer installed reman Cat 3412 in grinder. Since install we have cracked 2 flywheel housings in less than 400 hours. Bought 3 year platinum warranty but Cat will not cover Flywheel the 2nd time. machine has never had any issues with housing before engine taken out and reinstalled. Rear right motor mount has partial shim stack. Could this be the problem?

Im betting its supposed to have a shim pack on both sides. I would get ahold of your morbark dealer and ask them. Something is definitely out of alignment. Guessing CAT lost/miss placed/ the shim pack for the left hand side as one person/persons took the engine out and someone else put the new engine in and didn’t label things good enough upon disassembly.

Is the back off the block true? Does not distort the housing when tightened?
Most broken flywheel housings in trucks come from driveline vibrations. This is often caused by incorrect driveline angle, pinion shaft angle and u-joints out of phase. The engine out of alignment with the drive could cause the same problem as mentioned.
